5 Awesome Music Videos Based on Horror Movies

Halloween is ALMOST HERE. It is close enough that you can taste it (okay, so I might actually be tasting the mug of apple cider I’m drinking, but you get the idea). And of course that means it is the perfect time of year for horror movies.

But, well. Maybe you don’t want to watch the whole movie. Maybe you’d like a condensed version. With music.

Luckily, a number of bands have borrowed from horror movies for their music videos. Here’s five of my favorite examples:

30 Seconds to Mars – “The Kill”

This video is actually the reason I fell in love with this band. “Bartholomew Cubbins” retells the story of The Shining with the Mars boys, forcing them to face off with their tuxedoed doubles. This video is not only spooky, but it contains TWO JARED LETOS.

Lordi – “Blood Red Sandman”

Okay, okay. I hear you. “Who the hell is Lordi?” Lordi is a Finnish band that won the Eurovision contest in 2006, but even before that they were making some fantastic music videos. “Blood Red Sandman” is Lordi’s ode to the film Evil Dead, the cult-classic Bruce Campbell horror movie.

Rob Zombie – “Living Dead Girl”

Rob, or Uncle Zombie if you’d like, doesn’t just love horror movies, he DIRECTS them. But before he did that, he co-directed this music video which is based on the 1920’s horror film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. And, like many of his other works, this video also contains his wife Sherri Moon Zombie: she’s the eponymous “Living Dead Girl.”

Miles Fisher – “New Romance”

I can’t say I love the song, but I do love the mash-up of Saved by the Bell and Final Destination. I mean, they even included Jesse’s obsession with caffeine pills. I’M SO EXCITED! I’M SO EXCITED! I’M SO…SCARED.

My Chemical Romance – “Honey, This Mirror Isn’t Big Enough for The Two of Us”

MCR have been long-time supporters of messed-up horror flicks, so it totally makes sense that they’d homage the Japanese film Audition in this music video. The point is, basically, don’t be a creepy old dude, because you might meet a young woman who is even creepier than you.

Now, like I said, these are just some of my favorites. I know there’s a ton out there that I’ve left off of my list, so share YOUR favorites in the comments.
