10 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Natalie Portman

1. Natalie went Vegetarian at age 8 and then Vegan at age 28.
2. Natalie likes to spend her downtime at Winnie’s in New York City singing karaoke.
3. She speaks Hebrew, French, German, Spanish, and Japanese.
4. Natalie turned down the role of Wendy in The Ice Storm stating that the character was “too dark”. Christina Ricci, who took the part, stated that she usually gets roles that Natalie turns down.
5. Natalie shares the same birthday as her mother, June 9th.
6. Was approached by the screenwriter of The Social Network for inside information about attending Harvard University. At the time she was a fellow student with Facebook co-founders Mark Zuckerberg, Eduardo Saverin, Divya Narendra and Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss.
7. Natalie was originally cast as Juliet in Baz Luhrmann‘s Romeo + Juliet and even shot scenes with Leonardo DiCaprio. Shortly after she was replaced by Claire Danes due to Natalie and Leo’s age difference.
8. She originally turned down the role for Anywhere But Here due to the fact that her love scene required nudity. Co-star Susan Sarandon said that she could not do the film without Natalie and the scene was re-written.
9. Natalie stated that she would never do a slasher film or any other “Jennifer Love Hewitt type film.”
10. In high school, Natalie was voted “Most Likely to Appear on Jeopardy”.
