There Will Be Be A VMAs Amy Winehouse Tribute After All

When MTV’s Amy Doyle shrugged off reports of a Christina Aguilera tribute performance to Amy Winehouse by simply saying “We don’t know yet, but certainly she is top of mind, in our thoughts and in our hearts” to Billboard, it looked uncertain that the late singer would be honoured. A VMAs tribute was soon confirmed but it wasn’t exactly what we’d been expecting when MTV announced they would be dedicating it to Britney Spears (don’t worry, she’s still alive!). The chance of Amy Winehouse being honoured was beginning to look pretty bleak but today the truth is out – there WILL be a tribute!

The only artist confirmed so far is Tony Bennett (who Winehouse recorded her last ever song with), but considering the outpourings of grief displayed by so many musicians, it’s likely there will be a variety of acts.

Rumour has it that the recently deceased singer’s parents may be attending to pay respects to their daughter. After hearing the news of MTV’s plans, Amy’s father Mitch stated “Our family is honoured that the VMAs are giving Amy this wonderful tribute. We know that Amy’s performance of ‘Rehab’ at the MTV Movie Awards played an important part in Amy’s worldwide success”. He did not express any intentions to attend the awards show but the VMAs executive producer Jesse Ignjatovic has stated it would be “amazing” if they could. However the rumour has been played down by Ignjatovic’s colleague would said they’re “still working on it”.

Amy’s goddaughter singer Dionne Bromfield will be in the audience; she tweeted that she was“excited” about seeing fellow Brits Adele and Jessie J perform at the ceremony. However, she is yet to comment on the latest development.

So how do you feel about Amy Winehouse being honoured directly alongside Britney Spears?

Is it insulting or is it still a fitting tribute?
