Funny Ladies: The Badass Women of Judd Apatow

With the major success ofBridesmaids this summer, it seemed like the whole world was thinking for the first time that maybe females could be funny afterall. If you managed to ignore Lucille Ball, Jane Curtin and Tina Fey before them, then the ladies in Judd Apatow’s movies have convinced us all that females could bring the laughs.

Sure, one can argue that most of his films are male dominated. And in 2007 Katherine Heigl had some harsh words to say about Knocked Up, calling the film “a little sexist” and said “it paints the women as shrews, as humorless and uptight, and it paints the men as lovable, goofy, fun-loving guys.”

If anything I think the female characters in the mostly-male movies are there to bring the guys back to earth. Particularly in Knocked Up, the women are the ones who inspire the guys to get their lives on track and to grow up. I find huge inspiration in great female performances, and Apatow’s films have no shortage of those.

Say what you will Heigl! I have chronicled 14 of the BEST funny females from the Judd Apatow clan, see them below!
