Makeup Icon: Dita Von Teese

Okay, let’s face it: I have a lot of lady crushes (Yo-Landi Vi$$er, Kreayshawn, etc). But Dita Von Teese is my queen.

If you’re not familiar, Dita is basically the pioneer of the neo-burlesque movement, and is known for wearing almost solely vintage clothes, with a beauty routine to match. She’s basically as close to authentic as you can get in 2011.

Not only is she totally gorgeous, but her eye for fashion and insane knowledge for 30s, 40s, and pinup style and culture is so admirable. Her wardrobe and makeup looks both on- and off-stage aren’t just vintage-inspired — they literally ARE vintage. If you haven’t already checked it out, and are interested in Dita and her retro-glam maquillage, go pick up her book Burlesque and the Art of the Teese, where she breaks down exactly how to pull off authentic looks from every era of burlesque and explains how the styles she wears are historically significant. Everything from moon manicures to achieving the perfect 20s flapper pout…girl’s gotchu covered!

Here are my favorite Dita looks — tons of red lips, strong brows and fierce cat eyes!:

Fun Fact: Dita reportedly made her beauty mark permanent by getting it tattooed on — ouch!
