Daily Music Dose: The Old 97’s

For today’s Daily Music Dose, I shall be highlighting the party that is The Old 97’s. I have never heard of this band ever before in my entire life. I also don’t know anything about them except that they rock and that according to their Wiki entry, they are considered Alt Country.

In no particular order – Rhett Miller (vocals/rhythm guitar), Murry Hammond (bass), Ken Bethea (lead guitar), Phillip Peeples (drums)

While there are lots of country elements to this band, their sound is a little more dingy and frenetic. It sounds like music that you would hear in a bar or being played as you are chased by a truck full of people with pitchforks. Want to hear what I am trying to explain? Check this out:

I’m sorry but this video is all about BSG and it was shot at a mega gay dance club in Los Angeles. Instant awesome.

Dig that rockin’ sound!

While this band hasn’t made it big as it was predicted, they have had moderate success with various songs being featured here and their on the telly and such. They have released a slew of albums, a couple of extended plays, and even a DVD. If you want to read their Santa Claus list of releases, check out their site or wiki entry that I listed up there earlier in the post. Hopefully this band can be propelled to rock star status after Outside Lands. I can’t wait to see them live!

Who do you want to see at Outside Lands?
