Jared Leto and Terry Richardson Remember Amy Winehouse

With the recent passing of Amy Winehouse, celebrities everywhere have given their thoughts and memories of the singer. 30 Seconds to Mars singer Jared Leto has written a piece in Rolling Stoneabout his take on the struggles of addiction and living on the road. He writes:

“her recent passing hits close to home as the disease of addiction is a very familiar part of my life. It’s a brutal and savage condition that wreaks havoc not only on the addict, but on those around them as well.”

Many people have come out to criticize the press for their relentless negativity around Winehouse during some of her hardest times. Leto had some thoughts to share around the issue:

“It seems that many in the press had no problem acting as though her disease were as trivial as the latest “hot beach bods” spread. Maybe the next time someone exhibits the classic behavior of an addict in trouble, rather than using it as tabloid fodder, more energy could be spent attempting to help the person.”

Though he didn’t know her personally, Leto went on to say, “It’s a heartbreaking loss, not just of an incredibly talented artist, but of a beautiful and blessed young woman in the beginning of her life.”

In remembrance of Amy, famed celebrity photographer Terry Richardson has gone through some old photos and uploaded images of Winehouse and her then-husband Blake Fielder from 2007 to his blog. Though she had major issues happening at this time, the photos really capture the fun, vibrant spirit that those close to the singer knew well.
