Evangeline Lilly Joins The Cast of ‘The Hobbit’

Former Lost star Evangeline Lilly has found her way… onto the set of Peter Jackson’s upcoming prequel, The Hobbit. Sounds like it’s becoming quite the year for Evangeline, who recently gave birth to a baby boy.

Via Peter’s Facebook page, it was announced yesterday that Evangeline had joined the cast. And (unlike her ex-boyfriend and Lost costar Dominic Monaghan) she wouldn’t be playing a hobbit, but rather, the Woodland Elf named Tauriel – a role in which Peter wrote specifically for the film.

“Her name means ‘daughter of Mirkwood’ and, beyond that, we must leave you guessing,” Peter teased in his post, although he did make sure to clarify, “No, there is no romantic connection to Legolas [Orlando Bloom].”

Peter adds: “What is not a secret is how talented and compelling an actress Evangeline is. We are thrilled and excited she will be the one to bring our first true Sylvan Elf to life.”

As previously reported, the first film, The Hobbit: The Unexpected Journey, will be released on December 14, 2012, with the second film, The Hobbit: There and Back Again, slated to hit theaters the following year on December 13, 2013.

Do you think Evangeline makes a good elf? Are you stoked to see her in The Hobbit?
