Flashback Friday: 10 Family-Friendly 80s TV Show Theme Songs

If you were a child born in the 1980s, there were a TON of TV shows to watch at any given time, mostly consisting of family-centered sitcoms.

Before the days of when the Internet and the iPhones ruled the world (remember THOSE days?), it was a special event to spend time in front of the TV as a kid. In retrospect, if you think about it, TV shows in the 80s (as well as the 90s for that matter) had morals and were often nuclear family-oriented- both of which are pretty rare on TV these days.

Here are 10 of the best family-friendly 80s TV show theme songs:

FACTS OF LIFE (1979-1988)

Everything I know about life, I learned from Facts of Life.

CHARLES IN CHARGE (1984-1990)

Oh Charles in Charge, the epitome of teenage life in the 80s! A good-looking boy babysitter slash designated older brother with a conscience… where does one sign up for one of those?

SMALL WONDER (1985-1989)

Ever wonder if your sibling was a robot? Jamie’s sister “Vicki” really was!

FAMILY TIES (1982-1989)

Michael J. Fox was in his prime as the Republican son Alex P. Keaton to former hippie parents.

PUNKY BREWSTER (1984-1988)

America’s favorite orphan in the 80s – other than Little Orphan Annie, of course.

THE GOLDEN GIRLS (1985-1992)

Betty White, Bea Arthur, Estelle Getty and Rue McClanahan – the best friends a girl (or elderly lady) could ever have!

MR. BELVEDERE (1985-1990)

A man as a housekeeper? Sweet! Ok, so Mr. Belvedere was more of a butler, but either way, he was one cool dude! He was like Mr. Mom and Carrie Bradshaw smooshed together – it’s the writing thing. Speaking of Sex and the City: SATC regular Willie Garson (who played Stanford) had a recurring role on Mr. Belvedere!

GOOD MORNING MISS BLISS (1987-1989)

Paving the way for the more popular TV show Saved By The Bell, Good Morning Miss Bliss starred child actress Hayley Mills as the title teacher, Dennis Haskins, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Dustin Diamond, and Lark Voorhees – all of whom went on to star on the successful teen show Saved By The Bell.

OUT OF THIS WORLD (1987-1991)

Evie’s got it made: because of her alien dad (yes, ALIEN… making her half-alien), she can stop time by putting her index fingers together and other supernatural perks. Pretty sure every teenage girl in the 80s wished they were her!

THE WONDER YEARS (1988-1993)

[Not-So] Fun Fact: This show, which starred Fred Savage (Ben Savage‘s older bro), will probably never be released on DVD as official season boxed sets, allegedly due to music licensing issues. Such a shame!
