Christina Perri Rules the Wiltern + Announces Headlining Tour

Last night I went to the Wiltern with Keltie Colleen to see Christina Perri! I’ve seen her perform acoustic once before, at Keltie’s reading for Rockettes, Rockstars and Rockbottom (pics here), but this was a spectacular experience because she got to play a full set to a packed crowd.

Christina opened her set with ‘Bang Bang Bang’–my personal FAVORITE song off her upcoming album, Lovestrong.

She followed with ‘Daydream’, and then ‘Black and Blue’, which is a bonus track from her EP. At that point in the show Keltie was running out to hand off a pass to her man, but right when she was at the door Christina announced, “This one goes out to Keltie” which prompted her to SPRINT back down the walkway screaming “OHMYGOD I LOVE YOU THIS IS MY FAVORITE SONG!!!”

After that was, ‘The Lonely’ one of my fave songs lyrically–“I’m the ghost of a girl I want to be most.” So good, right?

‘Mine’ was a great dance-y tune, very Regina Spektor-ish. A good song to start with if you haven’t heard anything CP before.

‘Penguin’ was undoubtedly the part of the show that all the single ladies may have chosen to hit the bar (it’s about softness and cuteness of a relationship, inspired by penguins because they mate for life).

After she finished playing that song, she said “If you’re with your penguin, you should make out now!”

Crowd-pleaser and, well, the song that CHANGED HER LIFE, ‘Jar of Hearts’, was next.

Christina’s band fits well with her, stylistically and musically–but one of the coolest parts of her set was when she played ‘Tragedy’, because it was originally recorded with violin parts. In order to express the song the same way live, she worked with music schools in each city that had a show, arranging for their best student to guest perform for the evening.

‘Arms’ was the closing song.

Bummed you didn’t even know about CP. Don’t even worrrry about it, because just this morning she announced a headlining tour!
