5 Post-Apocalyptic Music Videos for your Rapture Pleasure

So, yesterday I advised you not to be on Beyonce’s team in case of an Apocalypse, based on evidence collected while watching her video for “Run The World (Girls).” But Beyonce is HARDLY the first to do a post-Apocalyptic music video. Here’s five other artists who have worked the end of civilization into a video:

Okay, seeing as how this is Buzznet, I’d never be allowed to escape with my life if I did not include the first video the band released for their most recent album Danger Days. And, truth be told, even if my opinion of the band’s MEMBERS has changed, I still get a kick out of this action packed Mad Max/Tank Girl video.

MUSE “UPRISING”

So, I clearly remember listening to this song while traveling into downtown Pittsburgh the day before the G-20 Conference in 2009. Because of that, it has really strong post-apocalypse ties to me (seeing my city shut down, fenced, gated and filled with SWAT/Riot cops? FREAKY). But the video keeps that vibe going, with the band performing in an urban wasteland. And the threat? Well…I’ll keep the spoilers to myself here.

ARCADE FIRE “THE SUBURBS”

This video, directed by Spike Jonze, takes a much more serious look at the subject matter. The happy sounding music placed over images of a typical suburban neighborhood during an Apocalyptic event is chilling and horrifying. What’s more? It’s so very REAL.

RIHANNA “DISTURBIA”

Apocalypses come in all shapes and sizes. And sometimes there are zombies. And sometimes Rihanna is Queen of the Zombies.

2PAC FT. DR. DRE “CALIFORNIA LOVE”

This, to me, will always be THE end of the world video. Directed by Hype Williams and drawing on Mad Max and The Warriors, features actor Chris Tucker as well as George Clinton. George f’in Clinton. Truly, even after the Apocalypse, California knows how to party.
