“Michael Jackson committed suicide” lawyer claims

Michael Jackson committed suicide because he was worried over his financial situation, claims defence lawyer Edward Chernoff.

The lawyer is defending Jackson’s doctor, Conrad Murray, who is to stand trial charged with involuntary manslaughter over the singer’s death. Murray has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

During a pretrial hearing yesterday, statements made by Chernoff have prompted the defence to request Jackson’s financial records.

“The crux of the defence is going to be that Michael Jackson engaged in a desperate act and took desperate measures that caused his death,” he told Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor.

“We believe at the time Michael Jackson died he was a desperate man in relation to his financial affairs.”

However, deputy district attorney David Walgren said the defence were attempting to distract the jury from the trial’s main argument, which is deciding whether or not Murray acted negligently when he injected Jackson with sedatives.

“This is an irrelevant sideshow designed to take issues away from the jury and smear Michael Jackson,” Walgren said.

Representative for Jackson’s estate, famed celebrity lawyer Howard Weitzman, also spoke out against the claim. He said: “Is the theory that Michael Jackson committed suicide, took his own life? I don’t think that’s a saleable theory.”

The request for financial documentation has been rejected by a judge. Opening statements for the case will be heard on 9 May 2011.

Thoughts?

I’m completely speechless, what the hell he is saying?! Michael has been killed by his doctor and I would kill him with my hands! He must pay for what he did!
