Gerard Way Confirmed To Star in a Movie Adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s ‘Sandman’

Gerard Way once named the first volume of Neil Gaiman’s Sandman series to be the BEST comic series to use when introducing non-fans to comics. So it seems only fitting that Way has inked a deal to star in the upcoming film version of the series.

Way will be taking on the role of Morpheus, the King of Dreams and one of the “Endless,” embodiments of ideas that are more eternal than even gods. He will be joined by Natalie Portman, who is set to take on the role of Death, and rumor has it that Gaiman’s wife, Amanda Palmer, will be appearing as Delirium, and will also be composing the film’s score.

Joss Whedon is set to direct the project.

When asked for comment, Gaiman has said “Cheerio! Pip pip! I’m quite British you know! Now, I’m off for a spot of tea! HAIL CTHULU!”

Way has said “I’m looking forward to taking some time off from my band and from my quest on Twitter to alienate large portions of my fanbase in order to star in this movie.” Way has no previous film credits.

While filming is not set to begin until late this year, you can check out a fanmade trailer on YouTube.

So, mark down the date, folks, and remember that APRIL 1ST, 2011 was the date you first heard this news!
