DIY Studded Boots

Having gone through three pairs of black lace-up boots this winter, I’d consider myself a conisseur of the style (Boston winter weather doesn’t treat shoes too well).

I’m all for saving a little dough, and this DIY is amazing (hint: go on and stud everything else you own if you have some studs left over after this project).

Hey there buzz people! I’m going to show you how to make yourself a pair of kickass studded boots for about $10, using my own pair as an example.

The first thing you’re going to need is a pair of boots (obviously). Now I could have gone out and spent $50 or more on a pair of brand new boots, but I figure if I’m going to spend that much then I might as well just by some pre-studded boots right?

The boots that I bought (seen below) for my DIY Studded Boots cost me $5.99 from the Goodwill. Of course thrift stores don’t carry everything in bulk so with that it’s kind of luck of the draw and not all the prices will be the same. I would just be on the look out for the perfect pair of boots that are at a reasonable price. Or if you already have an old pair of boots laying around, that’s even better (and cheaper!).

The second thing you’ll need for your DIY Studded Boots are the studs. The studs I used for my boots are British Cone Studs. They’re my favorite because they’re spikes but the edges are rounded so I don’t hurt myself (and trust me, I’m prone to hurting myself *cluts*).

I buy my studs in bags of 100 for $5.95 from this website called CrustPunks.com. They have a large variety of studs for cheap so you can technically use any type of stud you want for your boots.

The next thing you go ahead and stud your boots.

For mine I decided I wanted to fold down the tongue and fill it with the studs. I also added 3 studs along the top on both sides for accents.

I did my boots completely by hand. I had to use something hard to help me fold down the prongs on the back of the studs.

I’d say the process took me about 30 minutes total.

Not bad for $10 and 30 minutes of my time right?

I hope this “how-to” is helpful and will save some of you some money 🙂

xx
