Top 10 Predictions For Breakout Artists of 2011

Reblogged from kkblumush

2010 seemed like a great year for new breakout artists including Nicki Minaj, Wiz Khalifa, Pheonix, The Pretty Reckless, Ke$ha, B.o.B, Bruno Mars, Florence and the Machine, and of course, Bieber.

Here are some predictions for new artists that will break in 2011.

#1 Foster the People: I promise you, you will see a lot more of these dudes in 2011. Already their catchy tune “Pumped Up Kicks” is getting more and more radio play. They’re not to bad too look at either!

#2 Kerli: Kerli’s been catching all sort of exciting media coverage by major outlets like CNN and AOL’s Popeater. This Estonian popstar, who’s also dubbed the Queen of Bubble Goth, is someone you will definitely be taking notice of more in 2011. With her unique sense of style, gorgeous music videos and awesome tracks, she just makes you want more more more Kerli.

#3 Skyler Grey: Skyler Grey truly broke out at this year’s Grammy’s when she performed “I Need A Doctor” with Eminem and Dr. Dre. “I Need A Doctor” isnt her only collaboration with Eminem, she is also on the hit “I Love The Way You Lie” along with Rihanna and earlier this year you heard her on Diddy’s “I’m Coming Home.” Get ready to see a lot more of her at award shows like Grammy’s as I have no doubt she will win one of her own soon. Her single “Its Raining Again” embedded below might remind you a little of Dido.

#4 Sky Ferreira: Already considered an “it” girl and covered as an up-and-comer by everyone from Nylon Mag to Teen Vogue, Sky is destinied to blow up this year. This stylish bombshell successfully released her singles, “Obsession” and “One” last year and is slated to release “As If” on March 22nd. Watch out!

#5 Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All (OFWGKTA, Odd Future, or Wolf Gang): This hip hop collective from LA, CA has caught a ton of buzz including being featured on MTV, appearing on Jimmy Fallon and selling out every show they announce within moments of tickets going on sale. Its like Wu Tang Clan has been reincarnated but 2011-style! Warning: if you’re easily offended, don’t listen, just sayin’.

#6 Hanni El Khativ: A little blues, a little rock, and a lot of distorted guitar, this dude reminds me of what would happen if G-Love and Special Sauce and The White Stripes had a music baby. This past winter Hanni El Khativ opened for Florence & The Machine. 2011 is bound to be a good year.

#7 Warpaint: This all-girl experimental rock group has been getting lots of attention from the indie rock kids to more mainstream music fans who are drawn to their completely new and totally soulful rockin’ sound. I promise you will start seeing alot of Emily Kokal (vocals, guitar), Theresa Wayman (guitar, vocals), Jenny Lee Lindberg (bass, vocals), and Stella Mozgawa (drums, keyboards). Warpaint has been featured as an MTV “Push Artist Of The Week” and SPIN Magazines “Break Out” band.

#8 James Blake: Already pretty hot, both physically and figuratively (his music was on a ton of Top 10 lists in 2010), electronic composer/ singer James makes my heart skip a beat when I listen to his beautiful voice and sweat sweat lyrics.

#9 Lights (Valerie Poxleitner): At only 23 years old this Canadian popstar with awesomely synthesized beats has already released 4 EP albums and one 1 LP album. Get ready to learn the words to her songs and sing along in the car all day long.

#10 Allstar Weekend: I know, I know. They’re already HUGE right? With millions of Youtube streams. The Disney backed band has been getting a ton of play lately whether its on the TV or Radio Disney. But they’re not at The Jonas Bros level yet, and my instincts say this supremely cute and talented group will indeed get that big, paparazzi and all. And, 2011 is the year that will happen!

Who was your fave breakout artists of 2010 and who do you think should be added to the list of ones to watch for in 2011?
