Battle of the Mona Lisas: Panic at the Disco vs. Bayside

What is it with that 16th century masterpiece that is suddenly so… relevant?

A couple weeks ago we got to hear Panic at the Disco‘s first single ‘The Ballad of Mona Lisa‘ off the upcoming Vices and Virtues–and today Queens quartet Bayside released a stream of a brand new song titled ‘Mona Lisa’.

Coincidence? Most likely.

Brendon Urie and Spencer Smith took the stage in NYC last night and played three of the ten new tracks.

Bayside recently played it acoustic for radio 104.5:

The songs don’t sound anything alike, but let’s do a little side by side for FUNSIES:

A sampling of Bayside’s lyrics: Mona Lisa you’ve really done something / you’re my black ice on my road to whole some / you’ve done a number on all of my organs

And Panic’s: Whoa Mona Lisa, you’re guaranteed to run this town / Whoa Mona Lisa I’d pay to see you frown / Oh Mona Lisa, Say what you mean tell me I’m right and let the sun rain down on me give me a sign / I wanna believe

Is homegirl ’bout to become a tired cliche?

Yeah, I just called Mona Lisa my homegirl. ‘Sup, Da Vinci?

Bayside’s Killing Time comes out 2/22 and Vices, after long last, comes out on 3/22
