Label Love: MadeMe’s Androgynous Edge
MadeMe is a downtown NY based label helmed by Erin Magee, Madonna enthusiast, gay rights activist, devoted wife, and all-around snazzy dresser. One of the first women’s streetwear lines out there, MadeMe clothing is heavily influenced by 80s and early 90s fashion, music, and art (think graphic tees with tons of punk and pop references, leather motorcycle jackets, and great utilitarian outerwear) and made for the girl, who like Magee herself, used to have to resort to wearing guys clothing to get the look she wanted. Inspired by the likes of Lady Miss Kier from Deee-Lite, Kim Ann Foxman of Hercules and Love Affair, and Nicole and Natalie from Nina Sky, all of whom have appeared in the brand’s lookbooks, MadeMe is definitely a label to watch. Look out for their collaboration with Vans for Fall 2010, and be sure to check their blog.
