Lady Gaga to Lead a “Repeal Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” Rally

Lady Gaga, being Lady Gaga, got a lot of press for her political statement at the VMAs. And then a lot of press for a video she posted to her official site urging people to call their Senators and ask them to vote to repeal Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, a policy in place that prevents openly gay soldiers from serving in the US Armed Forces.

But that wasn’t enough for Lady Gaga. Once again, the Mama Monster is using her fame to rally her fans and the public into speaking out for a cause. This time, she’s doing it by throwing a political rally in Maine. Today. One day before the senate vote is set to take place.

The rally is scheduled for 4 PM and is being held in Maine because both of the state’s senators are reportedly undecided about their stance on DADT. The hope is that by showing them the will of the people, the voters and the future voters, they will choose to go to Washington and vote against Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.

Of course, the problem right now isn’t just getting enough votes to repeal DADT, the problem is even getting the bill that would repeal it to the senate floor. A number of conservatives, including a very vocal Senator John McCain, will likely vote to keep the motion from even being brought up…which means this will not be discussed. It will not be considered. McCain has even threatened to filibuster, a movement where he would not allow anyone else to talk in order to delay or even completely block the Senate from voting on DADT.

The rally will be held at Deering Oaks Park in Portland, Maine, near the University of Southern Maine campus. If any of you are around that area and support this cause, please, go to this rally and report back here with what you saw/heard/felt.
