Holy Innuendo, Batman!

If you’re anything like me, you’ve spent a certain amount of your time making jokes about the “equipment” certain superheroes are packing.

And I’m not talking utility belts.

In case you have (or even if you haven’t), now there’s a song for you. A recent episode of the animated series Batman: The Brave and the Bold featured a song performed by Black Canary, Catwoman and Huntress that hints at the sexual prowess of certain members of The Justice League:

Some stuff that’s kind interesting to note:

The plot of the episode involved Bruce Wayne getting amnesia while posing as a gangster. The Birds are actually performing this song in order to restore his memory…BY TELLING HIM, IN SONG, THAT BATMAN IS THE BEST LAY IN THE JUSTICE LEAGUE.

Black Canary is canonically involved with Green Arrow, both in the show and in the comics, which is why she’s so offended at the “shooting straight” lyric. Of course, GA is a womanizer and a known cheater, so, really, Dinah. You should be ready for that sort of thing to come up.

The Birds of Prey are a real DC Comics team. While the team does feature Black Canary and Huntress, the other regular members are Zinda Blake/Lady Blackhawk (a time displaced fighter pilot who can order a beer in 30 languages) and Barbara Gordon/Oracle (the former Batgirl turned super hacker). Lately, they’ve also been joined by Hawk (avatar of War) and Dove (avatar of Peace). The Birds of Prey series actually just relaunched this summer, so if you’re interested in reading it shouldn’t be too hard to find back issues!

And of course: this episode was actually written by Gail Simone, who is currently writing Birds of Prey. She also had a memorable run on it a few years ago, prior to its cancellation. She’s also currently working on Secret Six, and has previously written both Wonder Woman and Marvel’s Deadpool, among other titles. She’s pretty damn awesome.

In short: they’re right. No one does it better than the Birds of Prey.
