Because Sandals Suck: Top 5 Sneakers for Summer

If you’re anything like me, you think sandals are cool and all but given the option you’d still prefer to throw on a great pair of sneakers even on a gorgeous summer day. (Here’s to hoping that’s where our similarities end, for your sake). Here’s a round-up of five great summertime sneakers:

KEEP – The Ramos

KEEP’s classic, clean shoe reminds me of a picnic on a hot day. The colorway is simple with enough flair to add to any outfit. Wear these with cut off jean shorts and a plain white tee for the height of summer simplicity.

Jenny Holzer for Keds Whitney Collection:

Famed artist Jenny Holzer was tapped by Keds for this twist on the classic Ked, and her trademark bold statements (in this case “Protect me from what I want”) are ever present. The shoes will be available in July on keds.com and bloomingdales.com, and all proceeds benefit the Whitney Museum of American Art.

CLAWmoney x Vans Girls

Iconic female graffitti artist CLAWmoney has teamed up with Vans Girls to produce a capsule collection inspired by safari, NYC, and SoCal surf culture. This shoe is perfect for a beach bbq, a rooftop party, or a romp through the wilderness.

Vans Slip-Up

This shoe started off as an artist collaboration with Donny Miller through Vans Vault and was so successful Vans decided to include it as a wide release. The shoe is an optical illusion of sorts, with laces printed onto a traditional slip-on, and comes in a variety summery colors, including dark blue, yellow, brown, and my favorite, teal.

Undefeated You Can’t Beat LA Chuck Taylor

I may be partial, but this is my blog post and I love the effing the Lakers. A limited-edition shoe from Los Angeles based Undefeated, this Chuck Taylor features purple laces and a purple “You Can’t Beat LA” stamp on the side. Just don’t wear them in Boston. BTW, Ron Artest loves Buzznet.
