Buzz Guide: 30 Seconds To Mars, Franco, T-Laut

It’s our job to be on the internet all day, the least we can do is share its treasures with you, right? Yes, your friendly Buzz Guides will sift through news, gossip, memes and whatever else is floating around out there and pluck from the chaos the stuff that hooks us. This week, Breesays is up with her second entry in the series. Bring it.

MUSIC

30 Seconds to Mars “This is War”

If you saw me at a 30 Seconds to Mars show, I would be one of those people who sways and mumbles along with the music, with an occasional enunciated “youuuu” (fist in air). I’m not a member of the Echelon, I don’t even have them listed as one of my favorite bands on Facebook—but the band’s third studio album is streaming online and you know, I could get into this one.

Listen to the stream here and if you dig it, you can have it in your hot little hands on December 8th.

BOOK

Let The Great World Spin by Colum McCann

As the year comes to an end, this title by Colum McCann keeps popping up on Best of ’09 lists. All I’ve read so far is the introduction, but that alone is pretty captivating.

Those who saw him hushed. On Church Street. Liberty. Cortlandt. West Street. Fulton. Vesey. It was a silence that heard itself, awful and beautiful. Some thought at first that it must have been a trick of the light, something to do with the weather, an accident of shadowfall. Others figured it might be the perfect city joke-stand around and point upward, until people gathered, tilted their heads, nodded, affirmed, until all were staring upward at nothing at all, like waiting for the end of a Lenny Bruce gag. But the longer they watched, the surer they were. He stood at the very edge of the building, shaped dark against the gray of the morning. A window washer maybe. Or a construction worker. Or a jumper.

Up there, at the height of a hundred and ten stories, utterly still, a dark toy against the cloudy sky.

TV

James Franco as “Franco” on General Hospital.

Golden-ratio-face is in the middle of a two-month story arc on a soap opera that has been around since dawn of man.

The plusses: Soap operas are on like, 5 days a week. With the proper technology (tiVo) or nothing to do in the early afternoon time slot, you could watch him almost every day! Huzzah.

Minuses: Well, for one, who watches Soap Operas? Not even your mom is that uncool. Furthermore, for a brief stretch of misguided youth in which I DID watch a soap (Sunset Beach. Totally cancelled now, but had Eddie Cibirian in it, which was reason enough for me) they wore the same outfit for like a MONTH. The storylines are usually so painfully slow. Like, slower than a football game slow.

BUT again, this:

BOY

Taylor Lautner

And the crowd goes wild!

Yes, I get that this is a rather predictable choice, but I don’t think T-Laut has gotten as much love (or even attention, really) as RPattz has on this site. JACOB BLACK PICSPAM, GO!

INTERNET

How cute is this printable poster?

This dainty blogger was linked on Galadarling and now I like to check it every couple days. It’s a mish-mosh of style, art, fashion and more in a well designed package.

And that’s it for this week. Until next time, lovelies
