Chasing Shadows……Chapter Thirty-Two
Two days later:
It’s Sunday, and the big day is finally here.
“M, where’s my bag with my bath stuff in it?!” Gabrielle calls to Emily around the apartment.
“By the door with the other bags” Emily calls back from her room.
“Good, just wanna do one last check” Gabrielle then says now walking over to the door.
“You have an hour to do that, Jared said they’re be here in the hour, and he called ten minutes ago” Emily says now walking into the living room.
“I know, but I don’t want to do any last minute checks, just grab our bags and head out the door” Gabrielle says now looking through all of her bags, again.
“That’s fine, but you better not torture me about this for the next hour” Emily says now plopping in the sofa.
“Will do” Gabrielle says.
Then the phone rings.
“Hello” Emily says picking it up.
“Hi Emily, is Gabrielle with you?” says a voice on the other line, who happens to be the girls boss, Jim.
“Yeah, what’s up?” Emily asks.
“I need you two in today and for the next few weeks in for overtime. Sam and May had to do a report in LA and we’re short as it is so…” Jim says.
“Whoa whoa whoa! Did you forget that we’re going on tour with the band today?!” Emily says almost screaming in anger.
Gabrielle, who was just about to look in her shoes bag, head snaps up straight at Emily’s outburst.
“What’s up?” she asks.
But Emily just puts her hand up and shakes her head.
“I know, but I need you two in. Maybe next time” Jim says.
“But the band is like a short time away from picking us up!” Emily says.
By that Gabrielle springs up and then goes over to Emily.
“Well, then just call then now and tell them you have to cancel” Jim says.
“Um, don’t you think that’s a little cold? We had this going for a week now! And why? Because your two favorite people can’t kiss your ass in person because they are doing it across the country? You know what, no. We’re not going to cancel. You want us to do our job, well we are” Emily says now losing her temper.”You better watch your mouth with me before you lose your job Emily” Jim says with a angry tone.”Well fine, how about this then, I quit. I don’t need to work for a thankless job, I’m tired of it. So go fuck yourself” Emily says, now slamming the phone down.
“Dude” Gabrielle says in disbelief.
“I had enough Gab, do you know he wanted us to come in today and work over time for the next few weeks? And have us tell the guys that we cancel? They are so pumped up for this, it would cruel to pop their bubble. And besides, I’m not going to let Shannon go that easy” Emily says.
“I agree with you all the way. So you quit?” Gabrielle says.
“Yeah, as I said, I just don’t need a thankless job anymore, I’m sick of, one day you got work, and then after that a month goes by with zip, and the work you do, you get no thinks for it” Emily says.
“Very true” Gabrielle says nodding her head.
“You know, he might get you next” Emily then says.
“I know, that’s why my phone’s off. I’ll deal with him later” Gabrielle says.
Emily laughs at that, and the girls suddenly hear a horn beep.
They look outside and see a huge black tour bus in their driveway.
“Ready to go?!” Shannon yells to them from a window.
“Hell yes! Let us just get our bags!” Emily says now grabbing her bags.
“Lets us help you” Jared says as he and Tomo walk off the bus.
“Come on Shan” Tomo yells to him.
“Coming!” Shannon says now bouncing off the bus and then, instead of picking some bags up for Emily, he just picks Emily herself up and carries her onto the bus.
“Do you want me to do that for you?” Jared asks Gabrielle as the two laugh when they head over to the bus.
“Nah, my bags are wayyyy too heavy for that” Gabrielle says laughing.
Then, with one last check on the apartment, Emily and Gabrielle shut the front door and luck it up.
And off they go.
