Twilight Fans not Dazzled by Russell Brand

So, for those of you who haven’t heard, fans of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series are unhappy with VMA host Russell Brand. Brand is already in hot water with teenage fans for mocking the Jonas Brothers‘ chastity rings, but apparently his offense to the Twilighters was far, far worse.

The controversy kicked off when Brand introduced “Twilight” stars Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, Cam Gigandet and Robert Pattinson for their much-hyped appearance. Strolling into an aisle to introduce a performance by Paramore in a re-creation of Hollywood’s Whisky a Go Go, the actors each took a turn reciting their lines — but before Pattinson could conclude their moment in the sun, Brand cut off the 22-year-old heartthrob.

Horror of horrors! Fans have been sharing their thoughts with MTV since the broadcast on Sunday night. For example:“That’s basically a FRICKIN SIN in the fandom,” fumed babyvampire29, claiming that she was sharpening her spork in preparation to retaliate. “I mean, CUTTING OFF ROB?! No, MTV. Just no. That wasn’t smart. Not at all.”

Possibly the best reaction, though, is the one I’ve intercepted from the author herself. Stephenie Meyer had the following to say about the situation*:

“Dearest MTV,

While I have been pleased to work with you and am overjoyed to know that you are making my dream come true, I am furious over the actions of Russell Brand. Not only did he mock chastity, a necessity for young people growing up to be in healthy relationships such as the ones I portray in my best selling novels, but he also had the audacity to insult me and my fans on a more personal level. During the presentation of Paramore, Brand decided to cut off Edward. My Edward. The Edward of my soul.

I mean Robert, of course. Robert Cullen. Pattinson. Yes.

Please cut Brand’s arms and legs off and light him on fire. I would greatly appreciate it. After all, I’m bigger than J.K. Rowling.

Stephenie Meyer.”

So what do you think? Was Brand really out of line cutting off the Dazzling Mr. Pattinson? Or should the Twilight fans try being a little less melodramatic, even if the author can’t? Share your thoughts and feelings!

*Not really from Stephenie Meyer. I made it up. Just a joke, folks.
