Patrick Stump on Pop Culture and ‘Folie A Deux’

P. Stump may not be the mouthpiece for Fall Out Boy, but when he does speak, it’s quality, yo. When MTV previewed some tracks from Folie a Deux they sat down for a lengthy chat with our golden-piped man — and guys? He seems to be in kind of dark place right now.

“One of the things that’s very upsetting is watching the way pop culture has shifted … to the cult of celebrity. I think there’s something so morbid and awful about the way culture is right now in the United States, where we focus on such awful things, but nothing important. And so I think this whole record is definitely a huge part of that, [because] the world we inhabit is very strange, and it’s just as warped for us as it is for anybody who’s not in our band.”

Oh, Patrick, does you need some hugz? C’mere. I am made of sunshine and birthday cake.

Nah, jay kay, but I get what he’s saying. News is generally bad news and people bond over things they dislike more often than things they like (I read that in Psychology Today). I’m very interested in hearing how this album comes out, because I feel like it might actually reflect my perspectives — or give me a new one or two.

Alright now, enough with the Debbie Downer ‘tudes — go forth and find me shiny, happy, posi things on Buzznet (and the internet). Or tell me something positive about your life right now.
