Community Think Tank: I Want To Believe

It has been a long time coming. In just a few short hours, the long awaited X Files movies hits select theaters at midnight. If you’ve followed the series since it’s inception or you’re just looking for a summer blockbuster with a twist, this movie is sure to deliver.

While this movie is not a sequel, as the series has long been over, this movie picks up in “real time.” Back in the writer/director seat is Chris Carter, joined by Frank Spotnitz in the writer/producer arena. Much of this movie has been kept under wraps, and for many of us, this makes us want to know more. Even the movies own site revels the story as being “under wraps” and I suppose this adds to the mystique that is The X Files.

As many of you know, Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) was the believer in the paranormal, while Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) was the skeptic. In the beginning of the series, each was steadfast in their belief. This was the drive of the show. The series was built on Scully’s applied scientific knowledge whereas Molder used less conventional ideas to lead him to conclusions.

Often, in our daily lives, we cling to our personal beliefs. Many times, we form opinions based on mere “acquired” knowledge instead of things based on actual fact. What beliefs have you clung to and why? What beliefs have you had that became shattered once you opened your eyes to what you actually observed?
