Blecchhhhh: Peta’s new anti-fur ad.

Maybe I’m just having one of those days where its extraordinarily easy to gross me out (hello, Kat McPhee french kisses her dog!), but then I saw this. It wasn’t the first site I’d seen it on, though.

Let me give the faint-hearted a sneak-peek at the shocking Peta ad:

Then I catch a Josh Hartnett quote over at Goldenfiddle: “I gave up meat when I was twelve … One day I was cutting up a chicken for my mom, and I hit a tumor with the knife. There was [pus] and blood all over the place. That was enough for me.

Ok dudes. I get it. I am a vegetarian, I don’t wear fur. I get that bad things happen to animals. I like animals.

But WHY must you INSIST on grossing me out? Alright, I understand the Josh Harnett quote wasn’t some sort of plug for peta, it was just an unfortunate post-peta-ad discovery on my part.

Do you think ads with shock value are necessary in order to get the message across? Or do you think they’re just off-putting to those who might otherwise support the cause or the organization?

And more importantly, do you think Shirley Manson REALLY had to hold a dead fox carcass, or is that the magic of photoshop?
