A Tribute to Amy Winehouse: 1983-2011
I was distraught when I heard of Amy’s sudden and tragic death last weekend.
Despite a controversial personal life, she was able to share her amazing gift with the world through her music, pioneering the soul revival movement and reclaiming a place in contemporary music for her type of voice.
Amy was beautiful and talented, and it’s crushing that she was taken from us so early in her life, while she still had so much more to give to music, culture and society.
I hope that in the wake of her death, we remember her for her amazing talent, not her personal decisions and faults. I hope that people are inspired to explore the soul revival with artists like Duffy, Adele and Mayer Hawthorne, and that we can listen to Amy’s music and remember why she touched so many people.
