Buzznet: Laura Marling aching to release new material

In an exclusive interview with Buzznet, UK pop-folk artist Laura Marling has revealed that she's already desperate to release new songs, despite having just released a record this year. The ambitious singer/songwriter spoke candidly with us about plans for her new sound and her desire to become more folky.

It's the Great Pumpkin, Mikey Way!

So, awhile ago we brought you news that My Chemical Romance bassist Mikey Way was following his band's tradition at failing at hiatus. Way recently had the opportunity to pen a comic for the DC Universe Halloween 2008 issue.

And, to borrow from his big brother Gerard Way's comic, The Umbrella Academy, I heard a rumor that it was possibly going to involve Batman. Considering what we know about Mikey Way, this led me to speculate on the possible plot of the comic, thusly:

They're out looking for the kidnapped unicorns, in case you're wondering.

However, the cover illustration for the issue shows a lot more promise than my idea did:

No word yet on whether or not this cover illustration has anything to do with Mikey's comic, but no matter what it's my favorite twist on The Great Pumpkin since Robot Chicken took the topic on.

The issue hits stands on October 22nd, just in time for Halloween. So head out to your local comic shop to be sure they'll have a copy for you!

What other famous superheroes would you like to see one of the Brother Way tackle? Or even another one of the many comics fans in music today? We already know I'd consider allowing Gerard to pen Wonder Woman in film form!

Famous Stars and Straps Offer Limited Edition T-Shirt in Memory of Plane Crash Victims

Travis Barker's clothing company, Famous Stars and Straps, has designed a t-shirt in memory of Chris Baker and Charles Still, who lost their lives in the fatal plane crash that nearly took the life of Barker as well.

The limited-edition t-shirt will be available for purchase through the Famous Stars and Straps online store beginning October 13 and ALL of the proceeds will be going to both Still and Baker's families. There is currently no information on how much the t-shirt will cost you and if it comes in both girls and guys sizes ... but it's for a good cause, so borrow some money and shrink it if you have to!

"I hate planes. My biggest fear ever is to be involved in a plane crash, so when that happened ... well, I'm just thankful to be alive! I'm just grateful to be here at all," Barker recently told US Weekly from the Grossman Burn Center in Los Angeles where he is still being treated for second and third degree burns.

Barker is still in the hospital undergoing more surgery and hopes to be released in two weeks. DJ AM, who also escaped the deadly crash, suffered burns to his face and was treated for them in Augusta, Georgia, where Barker also received his initial treatment. There has been no official statement from AM and no word on if he too is still receiving treatment in Los Angeles.

The Summer Set recently stopped by Buzznet to talk about all things Halloween ... egging houses, poop candy baskets and TSS costume advice included!

Collectively, the band members have worn Halloween outfits in the past that include a Power Ranger, Snow White, Batman, Barney and a cow. Before watching the interview, can you guess who wore each of those costumes?

Although fans of horror films like "The Shining," the band go on a rant about any scary movie that includes Paris Hilton (cough cough "House of Wax"). And be sure to pay attention to their theory on 'sluts' and Halloween.

'Folie a Deux' by YOU: Art Challenge

So, um, there's this band? Fall Out Boy? And supposedly they're cool or whatever. And they've got everyone in a tizzy about their album release on Nov. 4! As everyone now knows, said album has a title, "Folie a Deux," which is a fancy-pants medical term for an odd disorder in which two people who share a close relationship — like siblings, or a boyfriend and girlfriend — suffer the same, or similar, delusions. "A madness shared by two," said the Wentz. Deep, right?

Anyway, said album also has cover art, and — interpret how you may — it's a graphic of a kid in a teddy bear costume carrying an actual surly-looking bear on his back.

Now, here’s the trick — Close your eyes. Pretend there are no bears. Just an album title, and a band. How would you translate FOB’s psych jargon into art? Take a photograph, draw a sketch, employ computer graphics, use your imagination and then make your vision a reality.

One rule: You have until Oct. 17 at 10am PST to submit your work. Okay, and one other rule: Please tag your masterpiece with fobcoverart08. (So we can find it. I mean, if you don't WANT us to, then hey, that's your biz...)

Third and last request: in the body of your post, please tell us something about how you arrived at your vision. By all means, take a picture of Rpatzz riding a bobsled if you want — if you can explain how you got that from "Folie a Deux," we’re good.

AND.... Are you ready for this, people? We're going to pick the 10 coolest submissions and then put the finalists up for VOTING. Because hey, this is still a democracy.

Want To Share Your Writing with THE William Beckett?

William Beckett isn't just the lyricist for The Academy Is.... I mean, being the lyricist for a band with such a devoted fan following is already pretty impressive. But Beckett doesn't stop his writing there. He's also a poet and a fiction author (there was talk at one point about him possibly co-authoring a book with Pete Wentz) and recently has taken to blogging.

It was apparently the blogging and the comments he received in his blog that inspired William to go one step further.

This blog was created almost three months ago as a creative outlet for me. But having met a lot of you that visit this blog, and having read your comments over the weeks, I’ve decided to create a place for you as well. A place where you can share your poetry, prose, short stories, etc. with me and other people that are interested. There is no catch. There is no signing on the dotted line.

The group is on Friends or Enemies.com and is called MONDAYEYES. And while there's the bonus of possibly having William see your work, there's also the chance for you to share your work with other writers, to get feedback and constructive criticism. There's also a forum for when you're frustrated or need help or have to flesh out an idea or can't find a word.

Beckett claims he's "starting a New Poet's Society." And I think we all know the appropriate response to that, right?

No Age Told 'No Obama Shirt' During Late Night TV Performance

One of the biggest days for Los Angeles-based experimental-rock band No Age was nearly ruined by political censorship prior to the band's performance on "The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson."

"I have recently come under what can only be called extreme censorship," guitarist Randy Randall wrote in an email posted on Pitchfork Media. "I felt it was important to voice my choice for presidential candidate, Barack Obama, seeing as the episode would air eight days before election day. Dean [Spunt] and I decided that it would be better to take advantage of the stage we had at our disposal ... Access to affordable health care is an issue very near to my heart for many personal reasons and I am sure that many of you can relate. I have lost and stood by as many of my close family members have battled with terrible illnesses. I have myself gone through traumatic hospitalizations only to come out the other side alive but horribly in debt."

Randall revealed that after being asked by a show rep to remove the shirt, the Equal Time Rule (designed to give political candidates equivalent airtime on most U.S. television and radio broadcasts) was brought up to further explain the request. The band almost didn't perform at all, until Randall cleverly decided to write 'Free Health Care' on the shirt and somehow obscured the Obama image on his shirt. No Age's performance on The Late Late Show airs on October 27 so we'll have to wait until then to find out how just how well Randall hid the Obama image, while still making it somewhat noticable.

This incident brings up a gigantic issue. Should aritsts, actors and anyone else on television/radio be allowed to publicly support their candidate of choice? Did No Age do the right thing or should they have not performed at all?

Ludo's Tim Convy Talks Popular Halloween Costumes: 'Gynecologists, Slutty French Maids'

Ludo's Tim Convy is down with Halloween ... just don't mention the movie "Poltergeist" in his presence or his grandparents' bad taste in costumes!

Buzznet: What is the stupidest couple costume?

Tim: Whatever my grandparents go as. I guess after 60+ Halloweens together, you run out of ideas but I'm not sure that's an excuse. With the exception of their outing as the White Stripes in '05, they've hit some pretty bad lows this century.

Buzznet: What do you think the most overrated costume will be for Halloween '08?

Tim: I think we're going to see a lot of 2 things: The new, Ledger-esque Joker, and the new Barack-esque Obama. Neither are bad choices, they just lack inspiration. And as with every Halloween, college campuses are bound to see plenty of dudes as gynecologists, and chicks as slutty nurses, slutty french maids, and slutty anything else they can think of.

Buzznet: What is your scariest Halloween memory?

Tim: When I was very very young, I watched "Poltergeist "with a bunch of friends. I didn't sleep for a week and didn't watch a scary movie for 15 years. I don't know if it's really even that frightening, but to this day I freak out when that movie is even mentioned.

Buzznet: What is the best costume you had as a kid?

Tim: When I was about 7, two friends and I went as the California raisins. For our trick, we performed a song that went like this:"We're the California Raisins, and we're so cool, We're the California raisins and we hate school, We're California raisins and we're so rad, We're the California raisins, we think school's bad."We meant it. I think I STILL have candy left over from that year. It was a haul I'll never forget.

Buzznet: If you're too old to trick-or-treat, what do you recommend doing on Halloween?

Tim: I recommend trick-or-treating, ESPECIALLY if you're too old to trick-or-treat. It makes it more exciting and rewarding. Kids take it for granted.

Buzznet: What will you be doing on Halloween this year?

Tim: We will be playing a show in Cleveland w/ Relient K. I hope to be dressed as a slutty pumpkin.

Buzznet: Best movie to watch on Halloween?

Tim: "The Lost Boys"

Buzznet: If this Halloween turns into a Zombie Apocalypse, how would you survive?

Tim: I would do whatever it takes, which would probably involve some violence. But right before I threw my first punch, I'd say something like, "Who invited the dead guys?"

Buzznet: Favorite candy?

Tim: Vegan candy-corn.
