Gossip Beth Ditto: Blame Gay Guys for Skinny Girls

Although a self-proclaimed lesbian punk rocker would seem to be a friend of homosexuals, The Gossip frontwoman Beth Ditto defies convention even in the world of the unconventional.

A naked Ditto graces the cover of the current NME magazine.  Inside, the big girl is a little less than graceful about tearing gay males a new hole for their role in promoting the rail-thin feminine ideal.  "If there's anyone to blame for size zero, it's not women.  Blame gay men who work in the fashion industry and want these woman as dolls."

Beth includes the likes of Paris Hilton and Posh Spice as co-conspirators in the gay male cabal to keep women pathological thin.  She gives a pass to her friend, the size-0 model Kate Moss.

Beth's ability to split hairs between Posh, Paris and Moss maybe why she was named coolest person in rock by NME last year.

Beth Ditto Knows: Who's to Blame for Size-0 Chic?

Gossip singer Beth Ditto blames gay male fashion workers for the death-thin trend in female profiles. Who is really to blame for the style of pathologically skinny women?

Eating too damn much and being lazy is whats to blame for people being overweight

and peoples own emotional problems make them not eat or eat too much. yea im sure fashion designers, models, and actors make people want to be perfect... but its ultimately your own descision to eat what you want...or not.

or we could all stay ignorant and blame gay guys ....yea that sounds great.
irossedmymind: 05/30/2007 4:51 PM
Nobody is to blame. I'm a size zero and I didn't 'work' to get that way. Thinness merely runs in my family. But I still take good car of myself, too, which makes me 'keep my figure.' I completely disagree with this Beth chick; IT'S NOBODY'S FAULT!
laurencerealkiller: 05/30/2007 4:54 PM
what does the gay guy have to do with it?
because hes the fashon designer?
no. its the agencies that want them rail thin.
did anyone ever watch the agency on vh1?remeber the one girl gained a few pounds and they freaked out and called her fat and she looked fine to the rest of the world...just a thought.
omgsuperdivastar: 05/30/2007 5:59 PM
umm, this is absolutely ridiculous. way to find a scapegoat for your fat, lazy, disgusting ass. yes, most fags ARE superficial and judgemental, but does that mean we are the cause of women's dietary problems and body proportions? no. only laziness, bad eating habits, and a lack of self esteem are to blame. so before you go and attempt to push the blame on us queers, take a good look in your mirror and realize that, no indeed, you are the cause of your body's digusting appearence. thank you.

What the fuck? Blame gay men who work in the fashion industry and want these woman as dolls? Someone needs to send her a newsflash about gay men not being the only ones who work in the fashion industry. Gay men make up a small part of the population, and not all gay men are involved in fashion, so it doesn't make any sense to lay the blame on gay guys in fashion. I'm so tired of people wanting to point the finger at one group of people. Issues with body image and the development of eating disorders extends FAR beyond some gay guys designing small clothes and booking rail-thin models...in fact it extends beyond the fashion industry entirely. So this Beth Bitto needs to shut her mouth.

why blame it on gay guys? thats stupid. theres a little something called eating too much food..

I agree that no one truly is to blame. No one wakes up in the morning and says "you know what? I really want to make girls feel like they're too fat/too thin today." (unless they're evil. joke.) Sure, the media or the fashion designers may be somewhat responsible. But it lies within us to understand we're all different people. We should have different views of what's beautiful, not just what the media sees as beautiful. We should all hold our own and understand we're all different in our own right. I give props to Ditto for being outspoken on her views as a "big girl in a thin world" so to speak. however, I don't think we should really point fingers. Instead, just understand this whole thin trend is just that: a trend. Just like in ancient Italian cultures, when curvy women were adored and considered muses, in the 50's when Marilyn Monroe was the most desired woman, and in the 60's when women wanted to be Twiggy. Sure, some of us may yearn to live the trend, but for the most part, it won't happen. That is, unless people try to gain confidence from themselves, not the media. And its also somewhat ironic that people say Ditto is being judgemental but then call her a fat, lazy, slob. Not ragging on people, just an observation.

I personally don't think there is anything special or inspiring about her. That's my opinon though. I think what she said was dumb as hell.
andrewundergrou: 05/30/2007 8:51 PM
thats cool, lets stereotype the entire homosexual male population and collectively blame them for size zeros fashion trends.... what a ignorant witch. wtf? and who says that all male designers are gay? Who's controlling the agencies and the media? Oh Yah popular culture....thats controlled by the people. People will pay for rail-thin figures.....and women arn't the only ones pressured into unhealthy habits for the sake of fashion... how many of you girls would like to see a centerfold of a 300 pound man kicking around a soccer ball?
pompasaurus: 05/30/2007 9:45 PM
beth is pretty awesome. i dont agree with the whole gay men as scapegoat thing, but its an interesting idea. if you think about it, the thinspo idols are made into dolls in a way... desexualized. after all, gay men are interested in female models for asthetics, not for their sexuality
ocrazi1: 05/30/2007 9:50 PM
wow....i, yeah. as a big girl, i will stand by the fact that alot of women that go through eating disorders is because of the media. the media portrays beauty as slim, as rail thin. but i have friends that eat like there's no tomorrow and manage to stay slim, it's just the way thier bodies are composed. and i know plenty of full figured girls that eat healthy and work out and are still full figured. yes, the media is a negative influence on women and thier weight, yes people like paris and nicole and posh add to that negativity. but gay men? yes, they may design the clothes that some of these unhealty skinny girls wear but why discount the ones that design the clothes that i wear? my life is compromised predominantly of gay men, and never has one told me that i wasn't beautiful, as is. if anything they are my biggest ego boosters. so, blame the media, absolutely, blame gay men, nah, i think not.

and as a side note: being full figured DOES not make you lazy, of a slob, or any of the other insults slurred by some. i AM FULL FIGURED. and i eat healthy, i run, jump, shout and play with the rest of them, some of us are just meant to be a little curvier than others. let it go.

I'm sorry if I'm not willing to take the thoughts
someone the size of a whale has about weight.
I wonder what her heart and blood pressure has
to say about her weight.

isn't it cute how everybody is getting all up in arms about the supposed homophobic comments a lesbian made, but then everybody's turning around and making horrible, mean comments about beth because she's fat? you know what, some fat people are, surprise! ok with being fat. and seriously, is being abnormally thin healthier? hardly.

models are thin because they supposed to sell clothes. that's why lingerie models have hips and tits and all those other lovely things, as opposed to couture models. models are clothes hangers.
laurenniko: 05/30/2007 11:21 PM
I bloody hate Beth! I don't care if she's a lesbian, or if she's overweight, she NEVER talks about her music. She's so self-obsessed it's unbearable!

I'm scared to buy NME this week, I'm making my mother buy it, so I don't look like I'm buying porn.
laurenniko: 05/30/2007 11:23 PM
Oh yeah, and people shouldn't feel bad about their curves, Marylin Monrue was like a UK size 14 I think. :)
