Buzznet Members React to Pete and Ashlee's Engagement; Patrick Stump Responds TooWednesday's late news that Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz and singer Ashlee Simpson are engaged (the news broke on FOE) sent our community into a bit of a tizzy. We recently corralled some of your reactions and are presenting a few updates to the story, including reactions from a Wentz bandmate and news that Simpson is NOT pregnant.
![]() Patrick Stump weighed in on the engagement, telling MTV News, "All I can really say is I'm totally happy for them. And I'm happy for myself, too. I'll probably get to wear a tux." Jessica Simpson – Wentz's sister-in-law to be! – also gabbed about the good news, telling Us Magazine, "My sister is overflowing with joy. Pete is an incredible soul. They naturally bring out the best in each other. I couldn't be happier." The Simpsons' father, Joe told People that he is "totally happy" and "so excited to have Pete as part of (our) family." I suppose this means that Wentz finally asked Father Simpson for his daughter's hand in marriage. If you recall, Ashlee told People in February that the promise ring she was wearing wasn't an engagement ring. "It just means that he hasn't asked my dad yet," she had explained. While all the recent reactions have been positive, it didn't help the situation when Pete posted a video on FriendsOrEnemies that propagated the rumor that Ashlee was pregnant. However, according to MTV News, when Ashlee's rep was asked about the rumor, the rep gave a one-word answer: "Engaged." It's certainly been an interesting ride for the couple. They've been together since 2006, though Wentz (understandably) kept the relationship private for a few months before going public. However, the Wentz fandom experienced a chaotic freak-out last summer when PopCrunch reported that the two were already engaged and preparing to have a child. (460 comments! On one post!) Their relationship has blossomed since then. "He's a cutie," Simpson recently told People, "and he has an awesome personality and kind of brings out the best of me and I knew that even before we were dating. There was just like an awesome connection we had." "We're past the honeymoon period," Wentz told People at the time. "The truth is, it's crazy to be able to kiss your best friend. It's just a really awesome thing." So, after many rumors and community upsets, the engagement is a reality. How did Buzznet feel about it? Carmimix3 was the first to post the obligatory keyboard-slam-post-of-excitement: ![]() And just a few posts later, the first sense of genuine shock, courtesy of potatokat: ![]() Surprisingly, the teenie warfare we all experienced last July came much later than we expected. Cue many excited posts with just a few "disappointed" fans: ![]() ![]() While the community was overwhelmingly positive, it only took an hour and seven minutes for the first "hate" post to show up: ![]() Because, obviously, when someone is married, they cease to perform all functions and actions they'd been used to doing previously. Queenofrandomness brought back the LULZ: ![]() A most valid question. Of course, the ridiculous absurdity of fandom had to rear its ugly head again. Please welcome the first charge that Ashlee Simpson is Yoko Ono: ![]() Right. People pledge eternal love to sell albums. JayneDoe brings the logic! ![]() And it was only a matter of time before the inevitable was asked: ![]() So how do you feel about this fiasco? Happy for the couple? Are Fall Out Boy doomed? Will the fandom completely lose their marbles by the end of today?

Pete said that there was a "surprise along the way", so that's what I took to mean pregnant.
Maybe that was the engagement?
I hate the Yoko comments. They're so stupid. And slightly sexist too.
Other than that good for them that they are happy.
definitely.
lyk, srsly wtf? :p
its like some of them personally know these people
its great fun
DITTO, man.
we don't know them.
maybe pete seems like an asshole
and maybe ashlee seems like a bitch
but we don't know them. let's be happy that they're happy, seriously!
