Buzznet Music Player HOW-TO!

After a long delay, the Buzznet Music Player has finally returned! *rejoices!*

As with any new release, I'm here to help you through your new Music Player:

Oh my lord. We have music players again!

Your Music Player is located in your navigation bar on the top of your page. Example!

Click on "Music" to open your library! You can also go to it at anytime through the following URL:

[username].buzznet.com/user/library

Obviously, insert your username in the beginning!

Buzznet's Music Players are VERY unique; unlike our previous players, you won't have to upload or download a single song. All music is from Buzznet and YouTube videos. That means it's 100% legal and, even better, 100% portable. Your library lives on your Buzznet, meaning you can access it from any computer on the face of the planet. AWESOME.

So how do you get music in your own Library? There are two ways: searching for and adding songs manually and syncing your Buzznet Player to your iTunes.

Let's start with manual search/adding. There are three major spots on Buzznet that allow you to search for music. There is a search bar on your Player's page:

There is also one in your control panel:

And the largest one to use sits at the top of every page: The Buzznet Search Bar!

Make sure to pull the drop down menu down and choose "Music" before entering your search term. You can search keywords for a band name OR a song name. Both will show in your search!

So, in this case, if you're searching for a band (or a song) called, "The Dillinger Escape Plan," here's everything that comes up. See the one you like? Hit the play button next to the name.

Once the video loads, the song begins to play. From here, you can do multiple things:

I) You can add the song to your library. This is ideal, because then you won't have to search for it again. It'll always be in your library. To add, just click the "Add To Library" button.
II) You can leave a comment on the original video on Buzznet. Just click the "Leave A Comment" button.

If you're looking for our Buzznet communities and pages for that specific band, the links under "Related Content" all direct you to the tag page for the band or, if applicable, the artist's profile.

Now, let's say you find the song you want, but the video that plays isn't the right one. Or perhaps the video is correct, but the actual song playing is wrong. Or maybe it's all wrong period. One of the unique parts of the Buzznet system is that the community gets to vote for what track is best for each song.

Example: I wanted to listen to The Dillinger Escape Plan's "Unretrofied" and play their official music video at the same time. When I searched for the song, this came up:

It's the right song, but the video is a horrific montage of images and clips from The Matrix movies. Not my style.

What you can do is click on the link in the bottom right corner that says, "Wrong Video? Vote for other versions."

This will open up an overlay on the page:

Now you can listen to other search results that match. Just hit the play button next to the title. Is it the correct version? Then click the "Thumbs Up" button to vote it as the best choice of song to play.

Whichever selection has the most user votes will play first.

But let's say all the options are just flat-out wrong. We also give you the option to supply your own YouTube URL to fix the video!

Upload the URL and BAM. No need to wait for us to fix a broken video/song. You've just chosen the best one.

This next feature is coming soon, within the next few days!

You can also sync your iTunes playlist with your Buzznet Player. We provide a Mac and PC plug-in for your iTunes. Any song you listen to in iTunes will be sent to your Library within a few seconds; additionally, once you first add the plug-in, it will add all of the songs you currently have in your iTunes. Incredible!

To add the plug-in, just click "Download Here" next to "Get The Plug-In." (Right now, it says, "Coming soon." It will change once it goes live.)

I'm not going to post a walkthrough of the plug-in because the installer walks you through the whole process. If you do need help, though, feel free to ask!

Now let's get down to your own personal library now that it has music.

Your library is on the right and your player sits to the left. Your library contains songs added by you after searching for them, as well as any songs you have synced to your iTunes. (I'll get into iTunes syncing later.)

You'll notice a couple changes to your profile and page. You have a new tab in your page:

And you have a Search/Library Bar in your control panel:

Now, let's get down to the good stuff!

You can search for songs from your library. So let's take a look at my library right now so I can show you how it works.

From here, you can double click on a song to play it and it'll open up in the player on the left.

Now, you're welcome to watch the video or go about the rest of your web business and just listen to music. (This is what I do because...well, Buzznet would be a bit of a mess if I just watched videos all day.)

You can add songs to your Play Queue so that as one finishes, it'll move to the next one. You can do this by selecting them in your Library and checking "Add To My Play Queue" or, even better, just drag and drop the song over to the Queue on the left side.

And adding more:

LOOKS LIKE A PARTY TO ME.

Your library will be visible to every member of the site, which allows you to find out what your friends are listening to and to grab music you like for yourself.

Let's take a look at Parker's library. (He's a designer here at Buzznet.)

So, as you're browsing someone's music, you can check any of the songs and click "Add to My Library" to save them on your own personal page! FANTASTICAL. I'll just add Parker's Nirvana songs to my Library:

Now I'll add them:

Awesome! Now I have these songs as well!

Let's move on to Favorites!

There's a list of favorite songs I made with my Library. Let's check out my Favorite Artists:

To change what Favorite Songs/Artists you have displayed publicly, click "Edit/Add."

You'll be taken to a new page that looks something like this:

Since your Favorites will be empty on launch, you'll need to add your favorite songs and artists. First, search for the artist name:

It will auto-suggest bands based on those available in the Buzznet system. Choose the one that matches. A new box will appear below that with all of the song titles that exist on Buzznet for you to choose from:

Choose the correct one. Now, this is important: You must click "Add" before you save your changes. This will add the song to your list of Favorites.

You can also re-arrange the songs, using the up and down arrows, to get your top songs in the correct position.

Hit Save Changes once you are satisfied with the list!

The process is nearly identical for Favorite Artists. You'll just search for the artist name first.

Choose the correct band and hit "Add."

Use the arrows to organize your list and hit "Save Changes" when you are happy with your Favorite Artists.

Well, that's it! That's a complete rundown of the brand new Buzznet Music Players. As always, you're welcome to ask for help in the comments below. I've also opened a thread in the Help Forum that will be linked in the header of the player:

If, at any time, something goes wrong or you need some help, hit the link. That way you won't have to search for this journal again.

So.........thoughts? YOU HAVE MUSIC PLAYERS!!!!

jillypeppa: 09/18/2008 8:42 PM
this sounds so awsome and all, but as boz said is there a way to remove it from the profile?...it looks kinda messy =/
heartsapocolypse: 09/18/2008 8:57 PM
I must be blind, I don't see it anywhere on my page...
heartsapocolypse: 09/18/2008 9:00 PM
Not blind, just dumb... I found it....
Hey, I've still got the Uploader as "Coming Soon." Is it still in the works and if so, how soon should it be up and ready to go?
Alcy: 09/18/2008 9:32 PM
Is it possible that in the future, it could be compatible with last.fm? A lot of what I listen to wouldn't be found on Youtube/Buzznet.
Iam Megon-Tron!: 09/18/2008 10:04 PM

Hate to say it, but I agree with the few above.
Any way to hide it?
Mark, please say yes. O_O

really? is it that much in the way? it's a text link on your page's navigation and like a one-line thing in the sidebar. Did you try the [-] minimize button? that will hide the search thing from your sidebar.

As cool as this is, and as much as it has been put into, I agree with Jilly and Boz. It is a bit crowded on pages as it is. Maybe if it were an optional play list...or something. : Sorry.
agreed.
sorry man.
