Band: Apples in Stereo

The first thing that came to mind when I first heard Apples In Stereo’s single, “Energy” is hippies. It’s a sunny, feel-good, tamborine-shakin’ track that conjures images of freckle-faced 20-somethings smoking out and talking about each others auras. I don’t know if that’s actually what hippies did, I wasn’t around at the time.

What should push me even further away from this band is the fact that ALGEBRA was used to create this album. Srsly! They “used elegant mathematical equations based on the properties of natural logarithms to replace the standard twelve tones in a musical octave with a completely new set of frequencies.” What does that even mean?Regardless, I really like this song.

Hit up Stereogum to get your hands on “Energy” then mark your calendar for Apples in Stereo’s release of “New Magnetic Wonder” which drops 2/7/07 through Simian/Elephant 6/Yep Roc Records.

I mean, a band that wrote a song about Stephen Colbert is worth mentioning right?
