As I walked around campus 9:30 this morning for the umpteenth time, I had to huff my way past crowds of people huddled together in groups smoking cigarettes. All the time you hear about how bad smoking is for your health, just as bad or worse than drunk driving. But, if it's so bad, why is it legal? For that matter, if cigarettes can cause just as much damage to your body as they say weed can, why is it that so many lobbyists vie to keep tabacco in reach of children and adults, but marijuana and alcohol and other drugs out of reach? What the hell is going on in the minds of these companies trying to make big business? You'd think they'd think they would make more money offa teens getting high than dying 10 yrs old kids smoking cigarettes. I don't know, what do you guys think?
Many states have considered legalizing marijuana, either for everyone or strictly for medical use. Others consider marijuana as a gateway drug and promotes young people to try other illegal and possibly quite addictive drugs. Marijuana has been reported to help people who suffer from constant nausea and even aids in pain relief. This has been a controversial topic because others report that legalizing marijuana would allow the DEA to free up over 30 million dollars, money that can be used to fight other potentially dangerous drugs. Besides that, the government could tax marijuana sales and bring in additional money which could be used for other worthy causes.
