@@@@@ WIEN - VIENNA @@@@

View from Stephansdom

View from Stephansdom

The Stephansdom (Cathedral of Saint Stephen), in Vienna, Austria, is the seat of a Roman Catholic Archbishop, a beloved symbol of Vienna, and the site of many important events in Austria's national life. The cathedral was first built as a parish church, in 1147, and rebuilt and enlarged over the centuries, with major new work concluding in 1511, although repair and restoration have continued from the beginning to the present day.

@@@ENJOYING VIENNA @@@@

Enjoying Vienna

Rustling newspapers, freshly baked pastries, speedy waiters and the Viennese Melange (milky coffee) with the typical glass of water: Up until today the Viennese coffee houses stamp the shape of the life style in the city of Vienna. Just as steeped in tradition and atmosphere are of course the “Heurigen” on the outskirts of Vienna , where you can enjoy Viennese wine (!), the hearty Viennese kitchen and music. In addition to which are the "culinary districts" , like the Spittelberg, the particularly attractive Naschmarkt, the Bermuda triangle in the city center, Museumsquartier and old AKH( Generall Hospital ), the new restaurants under the metropolitan railway at the Gürtel and many, many more. Not to forget the numerous Viennese Beisln (Pub's) and restaurants - from cozy to hip, from civil to luxurious, from Viennese to international.

Panic at the disco concert in Vienna.

So, this is the first journal I've ever written. I'd like to point out first that I'm not perfect in using the english language, but I'm always trying to improve.

My name is Lisa, I'm a 15-year-old girl from Austria and I'd like to share some memories of the best night in my life with those, who are interested in reading about them. To everyone else: Stop reading now.

March 1st, 2008.

I'll always remember this date. Dead sure.

I've been a Panic at the disco fan since last summer. And I couldn't believe that I was going to see them live. I mean, they're Panic at the disco. And I'm just a girl who really enjoys their music but never thought of the possibility to see them in concert so soon.

Anyway, I've begged for the permission to go to the concert about 3 weeks before it took place in Vienna. My parents were far from pleased but...you know, it's amazing what you can reach with hours of pleading.

So my cousin talked to her boyfriend and somehow we've arranged the whole thing.

My best friend Judith, who is a bit obsessed with PATD too, came with us and so we were going to spend a weekend in Vienna, staying at my cousin's boyfriends apartment.

Well...I didn't really know what to expect. On the one hand I was afraid to get disappointed, although I didn't really know why. But on the other hand...I was so excited and wanted to jump around, like, the whole time. So I thought 'Who the fuck cares what it'll be like? It's Panic at the disco. It'll have to be the best night in your life.'

On Friday, February 29th, we arrived in Vienna. It was kinda strange to know that there was only one day left before we'd see the boys live on stage.

Saturday afternoon was horrible. Just horrible.

A strong storm over Austria called 'Emma' made it impossible for us to get to the Gasometer (the buidling in the city of Vienna we're PATD were going to play) in the afternoon. I almost freaked out because I feared the show would be canceled because of the storm.

Mercifully the weather calmed down soon enough for us to get to the concert hall about one hour before admission.

There were already pretty much people waiting in front of the Gasometer and we were a bit unsure whether we'd get a place in one of the front rows.

After not even one hour of waiting in suspense we got into the concert hall, fortunately we were two of the first ones, so we stood in the third row. We had a pretty good view.

Waiting among all those girls and boys (who were mostly the same age as we were) wasn't that comfortable. There was a lot of pushing and pulling...But that's a part of it.

I also met Mona, a girl from Vienna I knew from the internet. It was really cool to meet her, although we didn't have much time to talk.

The first support-act, the denish band 'Dúné' played an awesome show. The vocalist did a great job, just like the other members of the band. Unfortunately I didn't really know them before this show so I couldn't sing along, but afterwards I became a fan of them. Their album is great, you should take some time to listen to it.

So, after about 45 minutes of playing, Dúné left the stage and an impatient crowd. The pushing got worse, but I told myself not to pay too much attention on it. Even if I got slapped by a weird girl.

'Black Gold' was the name of the seconds support-act. Not bad, cool singer, but I wasn't that interested in them. Maybe it was just because we all wanted to see Panic on stage.

After the show of Black Gold and another 30 minutes of waiting, Ryan, Brendon, Jon and Spencer entered the stage and the crowd totally got nuts. It was an amazing feeling to be part of such a cool kinda party.

They started with 'We're so starving" and 'Nine in the afternoon' from their new album 'Pretty.Odd.' and played the whole setlist in about one hour, including older songs like 'Camisado', 'I write sins not tragedies' etc. and two other songs of the new one.

It was simply amazing. Brendons voice was adorable and it seemed like they we're having a good time, just like we were. He also promised to come back.

Whenever they will play in Austria again, I'll be there for sure. It was such a cool experience and I still can't really believe that I was there, standing in this crowd of about 3.000 people, only a few meters away from the boys.

I'll never forget this night. I was a huge PATD-fan, but now I'm like totally obsessed with them. Their music means such a lot to me and I love their new album.

Everyone who's interested in seeing some more pics of the concert, be sure to check out my photos. I'll upload all the pics I've taken at the show. There are definitely some snapshots which will always remind me of this unforgettable night.

Thanks for reading this piece of unnecessary nonsense.

Vienna pictures especially, but not solely, per Tessy

The other day I was driving through Vienna with my Dad. These are just clumsy snapshots from out of the car, but I thought I'd share them with everyone:

Opera building on the Ringstraße ('Ring Street')

Opera building, front

Secession building very close to the Naschmarkt (a market where they sell all sorts of edible things such as fish, nuts, etc.) in the fourth district of Vienna; an exhibition hall
Gustav Klimt, Koloman Moser and others decided to part from more traditional and conservative artists and followed their own ideas of art. Not that I had any notion of art - but I can read Wikipedia pages.

This is close to the TGI Friday's restaurant we got.

These are a little older. I took them car-less:

By Special Easter Candy Request

Here's some stuff that Austrian kids (I) get (have to buy for herself) for Easter:

Milka chocolate bunnies and eggs

Kinder Schokolade ("Children Chocolate") bunnies... Yes, made out of chocolate.
They have a white chocolate coat on the inside and a milk chocolate one on the outside; like the Ueberraschungseier ("surprise eggs") by the same brand- if your petty countries have them at all.

Expensive Lindt Easter chocolaterie in various shapes and forms

Lindt chocolate bunnies

As an encore, two candy shops:

This one's very close to my apartment.

This one's very close to my gym.

November 20, 2007

One year of love.

so..this is gonna be my 1st journal here. about something that's happened exactly one year ago.
yes, today is a little anniversary for me.

20.11.06- that was the most amazing day in my life until now. that was the day, when i saw My Chemical Romance 1st time live in Vienna. i remember this day so good...
i know there weren't so many emos before their concert like now. and i didn't see any whiny 'gerardslovers'.

i miss this. because that was before all that stupid fashion yet.

they played in a really small hall. suppose...500-600 people. that was totally incredible.

i remember blonde Gee..i rememeber that i was crying when he was singing Cancer...
i just wanna come back there and forget about all this world again...
for a one that moment.
