VALO DEPRESSED BY SONGWRITING

HIM rocker VILLE VALO is considering quitting the music industry because songwriting turns him into a suicidal wreck. The Finnish rocker admits penning his band's dark songs drives his depression and he can only envy those who find the process cathartic and therapeutic. He says, "You open the door for the demons, and everything just f**king comes out. "Now the meltdowns are getting worse, and the depression won't go away; it's like being haunted by the most vile creatures ever created. "I've had depression before, but when you're so overwhelmed that it's taking you over... I just don't know if I'm prepared emotionally or mentally to write another song." Valo's bandmates and friends were so concerned about the frontman's mental health they implored him to seek help - and applauded him when he checked into celebrity rehab facility Promises in California. Producer Tim Palmer, who produced HIM's new album Venus Doom, knew the singer needed rehab help - because he realised Valo was becoming more like his late brother, who committed suicide. He adds, "When somebody gets that low, it is so important to find a friend or doctor or family member and just get help. Ville took a massive step by coming clean to me and just admitting to these feelings."

don't know how old his brother was, but suicide can happen at any age (more prevalent in teenagers, it seems), but if his brother suffered from depression it could also be a genetic trait so, as much as many love the music, it's much more important that he gets the help he needs. Perhaps if he goes thru rehab & takes a break from music, he could come back to it when his mind has cleared - he may even be able to take a different approach to the writing process as well as the lyrics... music doesn't have to be about negative or serious issues, but if he's in that state of mind it will take him there automatically so it just feeds the depression. He's fortunate he has people around him who recognize the problems and want him to get better, not just push to get more music from him: more music, more money for the industry! Whatever choice he makes, I hope his fan base will support him, not turn against him...

"Producer Tim Palmer...knew the singer needed rehab help - because he realised Valo was becoming more like his late brother..." The sentence is a little confusing, but it's referring to Tim Palmer's brother. I'm guessing that he wouldn't have known Valo long enough to have known any 'late' brother of *his*.

OK- makes more sense now. Thanks! Well, I guess ignore my note re: genetic traits :) Anyway, hope he gets whatever help he needs, and maybe even a break from touring would help. Honestly, I don't know how any of these bands do this non-stop. If you think about it: travel can be fun occassionally, but think of not knowing what city/state/country you're in when you wake every morning - never in your own bed/home or have familiar surroundings (other than the tour bus) and not having anyone else around that you know outside of the band members... it must be extremely chaotic & you have to really love what you do; Gotta give every last one of them credit for the dedication to their craft...

i recommend that EVERYONE read the whole article that this originated from. go find a Revolver magazine and read it before taking this excerpt at face value.

I think it's a site that posts only excerpt like 'the things they say' and stuff like that but I think they should have wrote something like 'taken from Revolver magazine...' or 'for more read....' you know?

anyway I sometimes write poems and it actually makes me feel better....

lol super fake... this shit is against everything that was written in a Swedish mag called Close-up.

Ahhh, wait a minute! Do you mean the media could turn the storyline to their favor to get more readers, even if it's not true!?!?! They would NEVER do something like that, why, that would be dishonest!! =) Is there an on-line link for the Close-Up article (in english) that you know of? - let people get the rest of the story/other side of the story, for their own info??
