Green Day Confirm They're The Foxboro Hot Tubs: 'We Are the Same Band'

After months of speculation, Green Day have officially confirmed that they're the rock 'n' roll band The Foxboro Hot Tubs.
"We think that the only similarity [between the Hot Tubs and Green Day] is that we are the same band. That is basically the only similarity. We are Jason White, Jason Freese, Michael Pritchard, Frank Edwin Wright the Third and the Reverend Strychnine Twitch. ... We are four guys who love to play music and be spontaneous, [and] after a few late night jams and a few too many bottles of wine, we were inspired to record some rockin' eight-track recordings," the band told MTV.
For those unaware — Michael Pritchard is the birth name of Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt, while Frank Edwin Wright the Third is Green Day drummer Tre Cool's real name. White and Freese are part of Green Day's touring band and Green Day singer Billie Joe Armstrong has been using the name Reverend Strychnine Twitch for the side project.
Perhaps even more exciting than the unveiling of the band is the fact that it might even performing live! "All things considered, either the Network [Green Day's 2003 side project] or Green Day would make excellent openers for a FBHT tour. Anyone know how to book a tour?"
Buzznet first broke the news about the Foxboro Hot Tubs back in December when this writer was alerted to check out a mysterious MySpace page that had launched with three incredible rock 'n' roll songs, the vocals of which matched Armstrong's perfectly. A free six-song download followed shortly on their Web page, which has since been taken down, and now a full-length album, Stop, Drop and Roll!!!, is due imminently (with the CD version dropping Apr 29.)
"The record goes up for sale any day. We hope people have a chance to pick up the soon to be released vinyl. If you want to buy it, buy it. If you already have it, buy it anyway!" stated the band.
Oh, and in case you were wondering about the meaning behind the name Foxboro Hot Tubs — the guys explained that too. "The Foxboro Hot Tubs were a place we used to sneak booze and chicks into late at night. But most of the time it was just 'dude soup.'"
Stop, Drop and Roll!!! track list:
"Stop Drop and Roll"
"Mother Mary"
"Ruby Room"
"Red Tide"
"Highway 1"
"She's a Saint Not a Celebrity"
"Sally"
"Alligator"
"The Pedestrian"
"27 Ave. Shuffle"
"Dark Side of Night"
"Pieces of Truth"
