Drawing Tutorial Traditional Drawing Brendon's Face
This is my first REAL drawing tutorial. This one on the face only. Next one is a bit of the body and then a colored pencil drawing.
Remember skills get improved with practice. When I first started drawing I was horrible. I drew everyday and I gotten a lot better.
First things first you need a reference picture
I grayscaled it in photoshop and used the burn/dodge tool to lighten/darken the shades.
Okay after you have a reference picture you need your supplies
this is my sketch book. it's light weight paper and it blends so well. It's also small which is good for a tutorial
Next up pencills in various shades mine range from a 5H to a 6B. A regular eraser(even great artists make mistakes!), a sharpener(a i have duel metal one which sharpens nicely), a kneaded eraser(that gray blob lol but it picks out highlights). Then you need something to blend the shades. I use my finger(sometimes), i have two paper stumps( one narrow for small areas like eyes and corners of mouths and a larger one for larger areas) and I have a Q-Tip(useful for blending hair out). You also need something to draw on. I have an easel so I'm all set. You guys can use a table or your sketch book.
Okay first you want to outline the basic shapes. Eyes, his lips, his nose(which i accidently drew on crooked) and the outline of his hair.
after that you want to start shading his face to make it look real. I started with his eyes in this piece. first the pupils in the darkest pencil you have. in my case a 6B, I outlined his irises in a 5B and blended it out. The light highlights in his eyes are a 3H. His eye brow is a 6B and HB in quick shaky flicks. The whites of the eys are never truly white. I shaded them in a 4H and blended them out. Then eyelashes in a 4B. The shades around his eyes are done in HB,4B and 5B.
Next an HB makes up the shading on his nose and a 6B for his nostrils.Dont make it crooked like I did :[
Shade his lips and DONT forget a highlight usually on the lower lip. Dont forget the indent above his lip. Add the shades on his neck and clothes.
now we start the hair. I used 6B and 2H for his hair in this piece.
Continue till you finish the hair and then I used the q-tip to blend out the hair. I'll post a clearer picture I hope this helps!
