The best remake of a classic movie, 'Tin Man'.

Most times I do not like how a remake of the great classic movies are done. All most every time ether it is butchered, badly done, or done very poorly. Not many time does a remake come along that not only honors the original but adds to it and makes something just as good or better.

I am happy to say that the SciFi mini movie 'Tin Man' not only is an awesome new version of the classic movie 'The Wizard of Oz'. It is also a very well written remake that adds to and tells the story in a whole new light.

In this version Dororthy

is now called DG

She is a little older, bolder, and wants to leave her home in Kansas. She lives with just her Mother and Father. It is when the newer version of the wicket witch, The Sorceress

the new version of the original wicket witch

sends her Longcoats through a travel storm to kill DG The parents toss DG in the storm. Sending her to the O.Z. (O.Z. stands for the Outer Zone now.)
When DG awakes she is alone and in the middle of the woods with some scaps of wood from her house. She first meets an interesting version of the munchkins. They are now a tree dwelling tribe.
Like the original she meets her friends in the same order, but all are different now.
First is Glitch a man with a zipper on his head whose brain was taken by the sorceress because of something he knew, earning him the name of Glitch (because sometimes his "synapses don't fire right"). He was once named Ambrose, a brilliant inventor.

The Sci Fi version of the Scarecrow

Then they find the Tin Man, Detective Wyatt Cain,

A former police man, a.k.a. "Tin Man", of the Mystic Man's protection detail. He joined a resistance movement against Azkadellia's rule, incurring her wrath. After his family was captured by Azkadellia's Longcoat soldiers, Cain was locked for years in a tin suit resembling an iron maiden, while the scene of his family's torture was played repeatedly. Despite his seemingly cold nature, he agrees to lead DG and Glitch to Central City and acts as their guardian.
Like the original Tin Man

he also is looking for his heart.
Last they save Raw, a man DG rescues from being the Papé's dinner. Though somewhat human in appearance he has an animal-like nature. Raw is a "viewer" with empathic and healing abilities who ran away from his people out of fear.

Like the original Cowardly Lion

he also lacks courage or so he thinks.
Toto is also in here

but this time Dorothy finds in in O.Z. and he is now a shape shifter called Tutor who was once the teacher of magic to DG. As a child, DG mispronounced his name/title and called him Toto.

Emerald City is now called Central City and this is where they meet The Mystic Man a former leader of Central City.

Like the Wizard before he is not as powerful as he appears and smarter than he lets on to be.

In this version. You will not believe what they do with him in this new version. It is wild, amazing, and in part two shocking.
The Tin Man has already aired on the Sci Fi channel, but I am sher that with its high ratings it will be aired again. Also the DVD will be out March 11, 2008.
If you can ether buy or rent. I thought is was done very good. If you see or do see it let me know your thoughts on it.

So there you have the new

that does honor the classic

To me the best way to do a remake.

I didn't like it. I found the "updated" dialog forced and the transformation of the sister at the end really unbelievable. And I really tried to like it. I like Zoey Deschanel and Alan Cumming.

The "tin man" twist was really evil, but didn't seem to add much psychological complexity. And they always managed to escape fantastic danger with minimum effort and injury.

But I know people who really liked it. So I may just be smoking crack.

This was really interesting to read Edward, I thought it was a series and that is why I didn't watch it [I have no more time for any more weekly series] I'm sure they will repeat it so I'll keep my eyes open : )

I very much enjoyed the movie. I liked that it wasn't a redoing of the original.

That is what I also liked best. They honor the original with a new story, but did not try to redo the original as then it would have really been horrible.
I thought that it was very interesting to watch, and this journal was a great sum up of it all! My favorite part was that it wasn't the same as the original as well. Old story, new idea. =D

That is what I loved so much about it. They did a whole new story line with hints of the original in it and not just a retelling of this classic as then it would have dishonored the original.
What do you think of what they did with the Mystic Man in part two? I was shocked they did that to him.
I was shocked as well!!! Those folks at SciFi really did do wonders when it comes to telling a damn good story! The twists and turns make all the story all the more interesting.
I was impressed when they did the chamber scene, where you see the classic Dorothy. I was jumping in my living room, pointing to my television saying, "Oh my God!!! Oh my God!!!" Great scene. =D
