Daily Music Dose - The Morning Light

Hailing from my hometown, Pittsburgh, The Morning Light has and will always be one of my favorite bands. The first show I had gone to, they opened for The Audition. Oh gosh. It seems like forever ago, but I can still remember every detail of that night. Good times. Their music has introduced to many bands over the past year.

Bobby Garver - Lead Vocals
Matt Colussy - Guitar, Piano, Vocals
Andy McDonald - Bass
Nick Baxter - Drums
Label - Fearless Records

The Morning Light has shared the stage with labelmates, The Maine, Every Avenue, and Mayday Parade along with Sing It Loud, The Cab, Valencia, Ludo, Artist Vs. Poet, Sparks The Rescue,This Providence, and many more. They have appeared on Bamboozle, Bamboozle Left, and Warped Tour.

Their EP Sounds of Love is one of my favorite EPs to listen to. I personally like the original verision of Clouds. Their self-titled full-length album reached #27 on the Billboard Heatseeekers chart. Each song has an upbeat melody, catchy lyrics, outstanding piano with great vocal harmonies. Favorite songs: Wake Up!, Brand, New, Friends, and Done Writing Love Songs.

Things started going some what down hill after Wargo left the band last January. TML dropped off the Shh. Just Go With It tour this past summer since they had the opportunity  to record new music. For a couple months, they didn't play any shows or release any music so I figured something had to be wrong. Unfortunately in October, they had decided to not continue as a band anymore. Andy has returned to school at Penn State. Matt is currently working with All Time Low. I guess Bobby and Nick are moving on and doing their own thing.

As sad as I am about the break up, it has been a good 3 years for The Morning Light and I wish them the best of luck in the future. Their final song Colors would have appeared on their sophmore album, but is now on their myspace.

My 12 Top Albums/EPs of 2009

Yes, I chose to do an awkward number of 12, or I just couldn't eliminate two... same thing.

12. Taking Back Sunday - New Again

I was unsure if I would like this album or not after Fred left... but they definately pulled through to make an amazing album.

11. The Swellers - Ups and Downsizing

Wow, I started listening to these guys early 2009, I would say. Bought their old albums, saw them on the BNE Tour... end of story. Great band and album.

10. Matt and Kim - Grand

Try and listen to this album and not get hooked on the epicness of it. I dare you. Matt and Kim have such an upbeat and happy sound. Plus who doesn't love Daylight? Very fun to play on the piano.

9. John Mayer - Battle Studies

WOW. John Mayer. I've listened to him since I was pretty young and he still amazes me. Make fun of me if you want, John Mayer is one of the most talented people of our generation.

8. Between the Trees - Spain

Loved the first album, loved this one even more.

7. Barcelona - Absolutes

I was on iTunes looking for new music, listened to Come Back When You Can... Mind. Blown.

6. Death Cab For Cutie - The Open Door EP

For those that know me well, you know my list would not be complete without some DCfC. I thought the album cover was a diving board until like last month. No idea why. Don't judge me.

5. Conditions - You Are Forgotten

(Grrrr this runined my 300 x 300 streak) I love Conditions... like LOVE. I've been listening to them since... 2007? Not quite sure but they rule.

4. Paper Route - Absence

I was so excited when this album came out. Paper Route has amazed me with every piece of music they have put out. Not to mention, they are the nicest guys ever. Buy this album now, go see them live, do everything you can to support this band.

3. Jack's Mannequin - The Glass Passenger

100% Amazing. That is all.

2. This Providence - Who Are You Now

Some parts of this album are so good it hurts. This album is really different from their other two but I love it to bits.

1. Paramore - brand new eyes

This album dissapointed some fans, but I honestly can't see why. It has the energy and studio work or Riot! while having the passion, honesty, and beautiful lyrics of AWKIF. In my opinion, the perfect album. I was very happy with it. Paramore has grown so much since i started listening to them in 2006, it's crazy. If you haven't bought this album for whatever reason, quit being crazy and go get it!

2009 Music Roundup: Singles

Oh goodness, I suppose 2009 was a big year for music ups and downs, yeah? Yeah. I'm going to start with my favorite singles of 2009:

1901, Phoenix - Everytime I hear this song, I think of that one car commercial, does anyone else think of that? Props to Maria for showing Phoenix to me, I had heard the song before but never knew who it was.

Damned If I Do Ya (Damned If I Don't), All Time Low - Love the new album, hate the new album, hate them over all - you have to admit that this little tune is catchy as fuck.

Meet Me On the Equinox, Death Cab For Cutie - I'd like to think that this song wasn't on the New Moon Soundtrack. I think this song is one of the best since their 2005 release Plans.

Hell, Tegan and Sara - My love for this song is about as big as my love for the music video.

Keeping On Without You, This Providence - I had expected That Girl's a Trick to be their second single off Who Are You Now? but alas, Keeping On Without You swept up and carried these FBR fellows to a higher level of um, amazingness?

Brick by Boring Brick, Paramore - Maybe I'm a little biased, Paramore being my favorite band. brand new eyes does not dissapoint, and neither does this single.

--

Singles that I got sick of:

Fireflies, Owl City - It's not that I don't like the song, it's just that hearing it every ten minutes gets annoying.

Good Girls Go bad, Cobra Starship - 'Nuff said.

Use Somebody, Kings of Leon - Was this 2008 or 2009? I love the song, better than hearing Sex on Fire but I mean, Only By The Night has so much better tracks on it.

--

So, what were your favorite singles of 2009, and the ones you can't stand hearing?

Cartel & This Providence @ The Troubadour

I love The Troubadour. You always feel so darn close to the bands on stage. I suppose this time I really WAS close, thanks to the Buzznet LMU crew (simplekindoflovely, swingthefocus11 and emisforily) who waved me and tall boyfriend into the center of the crowd right after The Summer Set finished up. Daily Music Dose - This Providence

The first time I heard of This Providence, I was at the Ludo, Sing It Loud, and The Morning Light show back in February.  When they came on stage with their long dark hair and black skinny jeans, I thought Oh, great. Another pop/punk band with boring lyrics about girls and drinking. I was completely wrong. They opened up with A Wolf In Sheep's Clothing. I quickly picked up the chorus, sang along at the top of my lungs, and danced the whole time. It was the most fun I've had at a show. Their set was my favorite that night.

Dan Young: Vocals/Guitar

Gavin Phillips: Guitar

David Blaise: Bass

Andy Horst: Drums

Label: Fueled By Ramen

Hailing from Seattle, Washington, This Providence, a Christian indie/rock band has received over 3 million plays on Myspace, released 3 albums and an EP within 6 years, and toured with numerous bands. I wasn't surprised when I discovered that they were considered a Christian band. Not all, but the majority of This Providence songs are about God. Listeners know that this band puts all their heart and soul into the music, whether it's writing songs or performing them live. Each song is catchy and just plain honest.

This Providence has shared the stage with The Cab, Copeland, Paramore, Sing It Loud, All Time Low, The Morning Light (RIP :'( ), Relient K, Brighten, Ludo, The Hush Sound, and many more. Over the Summer, they toured with Hey Monday, The Friday Night Boys, Stereo Skyline, and The Bigger Lights. This Fall, they will be touring with Cartel, The Summer Set, and Runner Runner.

Daniel Young (vocals) and Gavin Phillips (guitar) started This Providence in 2003. After graduating high school, This Providence worked with Seattle-based Rocketstar Recordings and released their debut full-length record, Our Worlds Divorce.

The quartet was signed to Fueled By Ramen in early 2006. They released their self-titled full-length Sophomore album in September 2006.

The opening track, A Wolf In Sheep's Clothing, is clearly about Satan. Young is telling us to stop giving in and stand against the devil."I've had enough of your games. If you're not trembling, you'd better be, because we're gonna be the end of you. I'm gonna show them who you really are. And I can tell you right now, it won't be pretty / You held me down for so long, but it's not gonna last, because I can see right through your beautiful eyes."

Last October, the band released an EP titled The Bright Lights EP. This past March, they released their third album Who Are You Now? Compared to their self-titled album, Who Are You Now? shows how they developed their own sound and how they've grown as musicians.

Who Are You Now was recorded with Matt Squire (All Time Low, Boys Like Girls, Panic! At The Disco). Oscary Wilde's, The Picture of Dorian Gray inspired Young to write a short story, which led him to write the 13 tracks of Who Are You Now?. This album is a collection of mostly rock songs with the occasional acoustic, slower songs.

Squeaking Wheels and White Light, the renovated version of My Beautiful Rescue, and Playing the Villian tend to be crowd pleasers. They have amazing lyrics and a fun, great beat that makes everyone want to dance. Chasing the Wind is the one of the acoustic songs that starts out mellow and gradually gets more powerful. My personal favorite is Sand In Your Shoes. Every since I heard Dan sing it back in February, I've been hooked. I can't go a day without listening to them.

Moral of the story? Don't judge a band on their looks. Even if they look like your typical pop/rock band. You will never know if their music could change your life if you don't give them a chance. I love that This Providence isn't afraid to share their message about God. Their talent definitely won't hold them back - making their future very bright.

 This Providence - Letdown

Today, This Providence released the music video for their new single Keeping On Without You.

Keeping On Without You Debut!

Seattle based pop-indie-rock band, This Providence shows off their new video for the new single, Keeping On Without You on their 2009 release Who Are You Now? The theme of the video shows a tragedy and the people invloved.. Throwing in the members of This Providence. I thought the video was very well made, one of my favorites. The sets, the whole vibe gives you chills. When lead singer and guitarist Dan Young was laying on the matress it reminded me of Coldplay's video for The Scientist.

The whole video circles around the boys in a desert with broken homes and lives. The video was beautifuly done and filmed. I whole-heartedly enjoyed this video!

Keeping On Without You shows the tone of the song and how much these boys have grown as a whole.

I have the pleasure of seeing them tonight in Seattle and I'm very excited. Keeping On Without You can be see on mtvU today and here!: http://www.mtvu.com/music/video-premiere/this-providence-keeping-on-without-you/

Catch these boys on tour with Cartel, The Summer Set, Runner Runner and The Dares!

Current Obsessions 8

1. Cartel

I've been in love with Cartel since I heard The Fortunate. I love every single song Cartel has ever put out - from Wasted to Save Us. I saw them in July with All Time Low and it was one of the best shows I've been too. Cycles was released last month. I love every single track. Each one is just as good as the track before. Some of my favorites are Only You and It Still Remains. Throughout this month, Cartel will be touring with This Providence and The Summer Set. In December, they will be playing with Motion City Soundtrack and Say Anything at different shows.

2. Erik Hassle

"It's music about things you think of when you're going to sleep..." Sweden pop/soul artist, Erik Hassle is signed to Island and Universial Republic Records. His first single Hurtful has made its way onto the the Swedish and U.K. charts. Although, his entire album hasn't been released, you can listen to some of his songs on his myspace. My favorite is Don't Bring Flowers.

3. Nothing But Shoes

GUYS GUYS GUYS. WE HAVE A BAND AMONG THE BUZZNET FAMILY!!! First, add Katie's Buzznet then check out her band, Nothing But Shoes. It's kinda quiet since they recorded it on their own, but other than that it sounds pretty good. If you like Blink 182, Paramore, All Time Low, The Ramones, New Found Glory, and the old Fall Out Boy, give them a listen. I'm in love with One Way. Keep up the great work Katie and best of luck! :D

4. Callahan

Hailing from Ohio, members of Callahan have been best friends since childhood. If you like The Bigger Lights or Red Car Wire, check out Callahan! They have recieved positive reviews from The Daily Chorus, Purevolume, AP Magazine, Fearless Radio, Absolute Punk, and many more. Listen to The Dive, Dress to Impress, This One For the History Books, and Face the Day.

5. We Are Birds

VS.

We Are Birds is one of my favorite Brighten songs. Today, someone sent me a link of Mindy White's cover. I didn't even know she could sing.. :O Haha. Her voice is so pretty! I'm not really sure which version I like more.. They are both equally amazing. Listen here. Which version do you perfer?

Are you obsessed yet?

<3Jenny
