Green Day's 'American Idiot' Documentary Almost Ready for Public Consumption
John Roecker, director of the Green Day documentary "Heart Like a Hand Grenade," has revealed that his film may finally see the light of day.

"Heart Like a Hand Grenade," taken from a line in the Green Day song "She's a Rebel," follows the trio through the recording of 2004's Grammy-winning American Idiot. Although the film is finished, it hasn't been released yet, leaving Roecker with a ton of footage that Green Day fans are aching for.

Roecker discussed the film in a recent MySpace post, stating: "Got the new mix for the movie and doing a color correction all day, so we are getting there! Pray to the gods we get 'Heart Like a Hand Grenade' out soon; the world needs it!"
Roecker didn't specify a release date for the movie, and IMDb has it categorized as still "in production."

"Heart Like a Hand Grenade" isn't the first collaboration between the director and the band. In 2006, Roecker released on DVD "Live Freaky! Die Freaky!," a twisted stop-motion animated film based on the life of Charles Manson and featuring voice contributions from members of Green Day, AFI and Rancid, among others. Billie Joe Armstrong performed a song in the movie and on the soundtrack called "Mechanical Man."
Roecker also served as director for "Disease Is Punishment," a 2004 straight-to-DVD movie that captured a concert by Green Day side project The Network, which he manages under the name Dr. Svengali.
