Feeling complex.

Okay, so today I FINALLY bought Breaking Dawn. I know, I know, it's going to suck, well until the end anyway. I've read the plot synopsis and the whole mutant vampire baby thing..but I won't say anymore in case you haven't read it. It's just one of those books you have to read, regardless of whether it sucks or not. Like Harry Potter. If you read one, you've gotta read the rest.

At the moment, I am loving The Horrors, Metro Station, and Taking Back Sunday. At the mall today they were playing Control, Shake it, and Kelsey by Metro Station EVERYWHERE! It was insane. I prefer Mason as opposed to Trace, and as for the other guys, you don't even really hear about them. I think Mason has a better voice, and isn't borderline gross and anorexic like Trace, but that's just my opinion. Death At The Chapel by The Horrors is currently my favourite song, it's so awesome. DOWNLOAD IT NAO.

This is The Horrors - how weird is their hair? It's a good, eccentric kind of weird.

I've been thinking a lot about hair. There have been heaps of hideous hair transitions made by our favourite rockers, but some just outdo the others on the scale of terrible-ness. Jared Leto of 30 Seconds To Mars would have to be the biggest offender of terrible hair-do's.
The man has varied through black with red tips, braided and brown, bowl cut with facial hair, near crew cut and nice, conventional brown. Personally, I think the black with red tips is the best look for Jared Leto, and the nice, brown hair works too.

See? Isn't that nice. As opposed to this eye-ruining do:

It might have been for one of his movie roles, but that doesn't make it any more acceptable in society. Bill Kaultiz of Tokio Hotel is another man of transition hair. He went from spiky short with a side fringe to a Yu-Gi-Oh hedgehog do, which I think is better than his previous hairstyle. I think the hedgehog hair reflects Bill's unique and individual personality. It's different, I must say, but not to the point of WTF IS THAT THING ON HIS HEAD?

Ah well..I think I'm going to go and read some more. Lucinda (cindann) and I are going out with my mum tomorrow cos she needs a bit of cheering up and all, should be fun!

Pearl.

Alright, so I'm sure most of you people who are fans of the Horrors have seen this on Faris' Myspace. Um, but not a lot of people have actually said anything about it other than how Faris was sooo right to share this with everyone and how stupid this girl "Pearl" is.

Now, I'm an intelligent person. When I meet someone in person I can get a really good picture of what their intentions with me are and what kind of person they are. Now, I don't know about you, but to me Faris posting this doesn't make him look like the bigger person.

It kind of reminds me of that jackass in the corner of a pub with his mates. They're incredibly loud. He's the one that picks out the fat girl at the bar and makes rude remarks about her weight to his mates, but making sure she can hear hime. Then later on he tries to hit on her because he secrectly likes the extra weight on a girl, but didn't want his mates to know about it.

What I'm trying to say is, it's like Faris thinks it's so funny and has no respect for people like "Pearl", but secrectly likes that females are thinking about almost "owning" him and that's why he posted the blog on Myspace.

I think a lot of the attaction of the Horrors at first was because they were like other people their age who loved music and made something out of it. Now they're just turning out to be like what some of the press thought of them. Rich Kids making music. That's probably why so many people are mad about Faris and Peaches. He's just a rich over privileged kid hanging out with other rich over privileged kids.

Now this doesn't make me hate The Horrors. This is just Faris and the whole band shouldn't be blamed for his actions. I still look forward to the new album.

Ten Bands You Need To Know.

I have a website currently being built called Kat Scratch. It is aimed towards helping local and underground punk bands get their name out there. I thought to kind of honor the website, I would put together a list of bands I enjoy that aren't as popular as you would think they would be. Possibly this list would give you an idea on what to expect from my website, and find your next favorite band.

This is the ultimate list of bands you need to know.

10. The Dresden Dolls

The Dresden Dolls are actually pretty popular in the underground music scene. They have opened up for bands like Panic At The Disco! and Nine Inch Nails. They finialy did one of their first headling tours during January, and I had the honor of seeing them live on my birthday. Amanda plays Piano while Brian plays drums... But they definitly do not limit their creativity to only those instriments! The Dresden Dolls are one of the most entertaining and amazing bands I have ever seen live or heard.

9. The Phenomenauts

The photo is as strange as the band is, honestly. The Phenomenauts are a Rockabilly Punk band from California. They write songs about comming from outter space and being robots, but still maintain a fun sound thats fast and old fashion. They remind me of the Mifits when Danzig still sang, but with more of  a newer fresh strange sound!

8. Jack Off Jill

Jack Off Jill is no longer around, but their sound will forever live on. I love this band so much, they have such a dark sound with dirty lyrics. I could listen to them all day long. In the 90's, they used to play shows with Marilyn Manson [when they were still called the Spooky Kids]. They were only able to put out two albums before they officialy broke up. All girl band, they will turn your world upside down.

7. Lower Class Brats

Call them punk, rock, or what ever else you want the Lower Class Brats will blow you away. As many other Clockwork bands, they write songs that relate to the movie and other songs that have to do with sex and well punk. LCB has been around since 1995 and haven't exactly took the band seriously until just recently. They have an amazingly strong fan base, and they never fail to put on an amazing show.

6. Two Ton Boa

If I could describe Two Ton Boa in one word it would be 'WOW.' This band opened for the Dresden Dolls during their January tour, and I was blown away... Completely. Sherry [lead singer] has such an amazing voice. They did a cover song of 'White Rabbit' by Jefferson Airplane and Sherry's voice almost matched that of Grace Slick's. There were no guitars present during their set, only two bass guitars. One of the Bassest actually wore high heals and stomped around on stage, which just amazed me to see a man do!

[oh heres a picture of the bassist playing in heals!!!]

5. The Toasters

THE TOASTERS!! One of my all time favorite ska bands! If you listen to ska, than you would definitly know this band... This band has been around since 1981, and they are still playing shows! They have such fun beats that make skanking in the pit much more exciting, I can't wait to see this band yet again!

4. Gogol Bordello

Gypsy punk rockers Gogol Bordello are on a roll. I first heard this band off of a Warped Tour completion disk, it was their song 'Star Wearing Purple.' They have such an interesting sound, I don't really know what to compare them too. They call themselves Gypsy punks, but the only real way you could understand their music is to listen to it!!!

3. The Horrors

Alot of people are finding The Horrors, but still here in America they aren't as known. I love how old fashion this band is, they have an amazing surf sound. If you haven't listened to the Horrors yet, you need to as soon as possible!

2. 7 Shot Screamers

7 Shot Screamers are a local Saint Louis band, and probably one of my favorite bands ever. They mix glam, rockabilly, psychobilly, and rock all in one! From songs about confusion to hookers, they are definitly a band to love!

1. Big D & The Kids Table

Oh boy... Big D & The Kids Table, perfect mixture of punk and ska. Aside from The Dresden Dolls, Big D has played one of my favorite shows ever! They have been around since the 90's, and they are not slowing down for nothing! From their songs bashing rich and scene kids, to songs about girlfriends on drugs and partying, Big D belongs to be #1 on my list. They're just so friendly and easy to love!

why does it matter to you?

I was on the Horum, like I go on everyday, and about a little over a month ago I saw this:

Horrors T-Shirt in Hot Topic

http://www.hottopic.com/hottopic/store/product.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302028381&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524442165881&bmUID=1191517815713

Recent discovery. Not sure how I feel about it.

It was posted by: Cody 9.
Now, I had no problem with it. I just have a problem with some of the comments left on the thread. Like this one:
Re: Horrors T-Shirt in Hot Topic

I'm slightly upset at a minor sell-out, of course, but I WANT THAT SHIRT.

Since when is a band selling a shirt in a store considered a sell out? Then there are others:

Re: Horrors T-Shirt in Hot Topic

NOOOOOOOOO!

Now I'm going to have to see all those little scenesters in my school sporting Horrors shirts! That's very bad!

I'm not trying to keep The Horrors underground, you know (as they're already quite popular where most of you all live), butI really don't want the scene kids turning them into just the new thing.
They should be respected for their music, not just liked because "OMFG HORRORS! LULZ, TAHTS SO AWESOMEEEZ! SOUNDS SCAIREE.

Re: Horrors T-Shirt in Hot Topic

I will also admit to thinking Hot Topic was cool when I was 13, I still own some of the old shirts I got there. As I said before, I have no problem with the shirt being sold there (or anywhere for that matter). The only thing is, there is always that one kid who would buy band shirts just because they liked the design. If someone buys a shirt and starts listening to The Horrors, that's awesome. But some people will buy shirts and still listen to Hawthorne Heights and crap like that, but pretend they like other bands like the Horrors they don't even listen to. That is a HUGE peeve of mine.

Re: Horrors T-Shirt in Hot Topic

o sry, jus read faris' post, i take bake that last post...my bad dudes...haha but i still am not exstatic about it being in a mainstream, scenecore store...

Why on Earth does it matter who's wearing a band t-shirt?????? Who cares if some person likes it because of the design? The band isn't about who's wearing the shirt and being a fan doesn't mean you have to care about that person wearing the shirt.

Why is it bad that a band is selling a t-shirt in a store that sells band merch and other things?
Why is Hot Topic so bad to some of these Americans? They're lucky to have a place selling band tees. I don't anymore. I can only get a small selection of Hello Kitty stuff from Claire's and the place that did sell band tees is now a tine little booth with mainly piercing things now.
Be greatful you have a place like this.
Why are people jugding other people by the way they look or what they think this person feels about a band?
Just beause you looking at a person wearing a t-shirt of a band you also like doesn't mean you know how this person feels about it because of the way their hair is or what jewellery they wear. Now some of the comments were about how a person will look at the shirt and just like them for a year and that's it. So What? It doesn't affect you and the way you feel about the band.

Being a fan isn't about who is wearing a t-shirt or sticking up for the band because you feel like you own the band.
Surprise!! You don't won the band. You have NO ownership and just because you feel like you're a "real" fan doesn't mean the person next to you with the big hair, coloured jewellry, and a fashion mullet doesn't feel the same way.
A band should not have be lumped in with a fashion craze.

Being a fan is about you loving the band. It's how you feel when you see them walk out on stage and see them live. It's about how you feel and respond when you listen to the bands music. Why does someone else have to influence you to have a feeling of ownership?
For me being a fan of My Chem was the way I felt when I first saw them live. It was the best experience of my life and 14 year olds aren't going to stop me from loving the band. Just push them out of the way and don't give a crap about what you think these people are there for. If someone likes the Horrors for the way they look, then fine. Let them think that Joshua has "awsome" hair. They will grow out of it. It's not like they will stay "loving" his hair forever and taint the band with bad karma.

All these people saying the Horrors are selling out or have become commercial because they are in a type of magazine or type of store aren't any better either. ALL BANDS GET SOME PUBLICITY! So what if the Horrors are in a magazine??? Does it affect the way you feel about their music? NO.

What the hell is up with people these days and "owning" the musicians they like? Go live in a hole were there is no music for a year then come back and apperciate what they've given and stop wasting time with petty things.
