Cinematography

A topic that I and my best friend were talking about after writting class today. The reason we were discussing it was because I had referenced how people flock to horror movies because they want to be taken out of their personal worlds by fear. So we were discussing the uses of gore in movies. Both of us have a taste for "atmospheric movies" like Psycho, Signs, Cloverfield, etc. Eventually, this discussion came around to Steven Spielberg. We started comparing camera angles in the previous Indiana Jones movies and the new one. We determined that if the new Indiana Jones had not been directed by Spielberg it would have been a box-office flop. Not because Spielberg is famous or because he is an amazing director. (Christopher Nolan's an amazing director, but if he had directed that movie, it would have flopped.) No, the reason is that the camera angles were reminiscent of the old Indiana Jones movies (which, O.K., is because Spielberg is an amazing director). Anyway, I just found the entire conversation interesting. However, that could just be because I have no talent for directing, while my friend does have a talent for camera angles.
