Natalie Portman Heads to 'Wuthering Heights'

In what is being described as a fresh and exciting version of "Wuthering Heights," The Hollywood Reporter ran an announcement this morning that Natalie Portman has been cast as Catherine Earnshw in a new big-screen adaptation of Emily Brontë's period novel.
The film will be directed by John Maybury ("The Jacket") from a script written by Olivia Hetreed ("Girl with the Pearl Earring").
"Wuthering Heights" is Emily Brontë's only novel. It was first published in 1847 and was edited by her sister Charlotte after her death. The name of the novel comes from the Yorkshire manor on the moors on which the story centres and tells the tale of the all-encompassing and passionate, yet thwarted, love between Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw, and how this unresolved passion eventually destroys both themselves and many around them. Sounds like a good time if you ask me.
This is not the first time "Wuthering Heights" has been brought to the big screen. It has been done numerous times over the decades including both TV and theatrical versions. A 1970 version starred Timothy Dalton and a 1939 version which starred Merle Oberon as Earnshaw and Laurence Olivier as Heathcliff has long been considered the definitive version and is the one most of us probably saw in school.
No start date has been set, but we'll keep you posted!
