MusicDish Presents: Classic Bollywood - Demo by ProducerLoops.com

Classic Bollywood - Demo by ProducerLoops.com on Fairtilizer!

"A peek into this exhaustive library put together by Gaurav Dayal will give you a good representation of some of the musical styles prevalent in India.

The moods on this sample cover a broad range of emotions and situations - Celebration, Romance, Sombre and a Bridal sendoff in styles across the spectrum in the Indian musical domain. Though this package is titled "Classic Bollywood", do not assume that its use is restricted. It can be used for dance clubs, wedding parties, social gatherings or any occasion which call for an ethnic taste.

Instrumentally this demo has been arranged to a nicety. The Orchestral string section involving Indian violin and viola personify what Bollywood has incorporated for a long time in its music.Throughout this demo, the Indian Flute figures prominently. The Flute generally evokes a feeling of rustiness and this is no different for the Indian Flute. An ideal instrument for most settings, the Indian Flute adds a distinct "warm" feeling. Percussive instruments such as the Tabla provide the ideal backdrop for the various rhythmic grooves that are used on this demo. Stringed instruments such as the Sitar add an element of mysticism.

The vocals, both leads and backups have been executed with a flair and a touch that can only be described as authentic Indian. The lyrics are in Punjabi, language of the state of Punjab in Northern India. This compilation by Gaurav Dayal will please any diehard Bollywood fan or Indian music aficionado."

Not Expecting That!

Okay, so yesterday I was dragged by my friends to go watch New Moon (Blegh!), being the lovely friends they are. I have not yet voiced my disgust for Twilight to you, but this being my first proper journal, I shall.

Twilight = the worst piece of published fiction in the world. And I can say that because I've read them (I have to admit, the last book is a good source of LULZ). Sure, the story concept is interesting, but Stephanie Meyer is just NOT a good writer, and That's That. The characters, mostly the main ones, are not well-developed and sometimes they do things which are just like WTF. I'm sure I had to read a few things over and check 'Did he/she really just do/say that?' I guess the movie was okay, but that just maybe because it's a movie. There are tons of rubbish movies just composed of fluff, but a book? No, books are not the same. I'm sure if I hadn't read the books I would've enjoyed the movie (even though some parts are still kinda stupid).

Getting to my point, I was really surprised to find that the movie had a really good soundtrack. And I mean, really good. It's not at all what I expected. Almost the whole album is compiled of indie bands, with a few more famous artists like Thom York of Radiohead. While I was watching the movie, I wasn't really paying much attention (almost falling asleep actually), but the thing that I noticed was that 'Hey, this movie has pretty cool music.' The music really does emphasise the emotions of the movie (even though the movie does this pretty lax), like the song Possibility by Lykke Li where Bella is grieving (Oh God...). Some of the fight scenes also had pretty cool music, like Thom York's Hearing Damage playing while the wolves and vampires(vampire) are fighting in the woods, instead of a score.

So, I recommend to buy this album, even if it is Twilight. You can always just print over the CD and put it in a new case, not to remind you of it's relation to Twilight. After all, good music is good music.

Polarity/1's "Plunder": A Song for Our Times (Free MP3)

Download Free MP3 Of Polarity/1's "Plunder"

The appropriately titled "Plunder" begins with a Bernie Madoff impersonator admitting to the now infamous ponzi scheme, which has since led to a 150 year prison sentence. As the song progresses, clips from this speech are cleverly inserted throughout the verses. The production is fantastic, and although it’s certainly not organic in nature, the horns and funky bass line keep it grounded, and prevent it from becoming just a jumble of computer loops. With clever lines like "easy credit, easy crime, American dream, death by subprime," Plunder succeeds in portraying the current dismal economic picture. However, despite the grim nature of the lyrics, the track is ironically upbeat, and in the end, it makes you want to dance, even though the subject matter is nothing worth celebrating.
- Will Cohn, MusicDish e-Journal

"Plunder" can be heard in the upcoming documentary by the same name, directed by Danny Schechter. Nicknamed "The News Dissector", Emmy Award winning Schechter investigates the economic downturn and subprime mortgage crisis. Polarity/1 contributes two songs to the film, and even makes a brief cameo appearance. Watch the teaser trailer for Danny Schechter's 'Plunder' documentary.

The music of Polarity/1 is exactly what the name suggests: conjoined opposites -- a mash up of new: cutting edge electronica/hip hop/nu-jazz and old; roots music of America (blues, funk, country, early jazz), Brazil (samba, pagoda, etc.) and West African groove science. Polarity also describes the dual streams of Polarity/1's musical output: songs and instrumentals.

New York's Rachael Sage To Appear On New "Fame" Film Soundtrack

New York, NY - MPress Records is pleased to announce that Rachael Sage's song "Too Many Women" will be featured in the new "Fame" film hitting theatres on September 25, 2009. The soundtrack album will be available for digital and physical purchase nationally on August 25, 2009. "Too Many Women", which also appears on Sage's critically acclaimed album "Public Record", was hand-picked by director Kevin Tancharoen, and remixed by Damon Elliot specifically for the movie.

Rachael Sage's song appears on the "Fame" soundtrack alongside such notable artists as Santigold, Naturi Naughton, Meghan Mullally and Sam Sparro. For a full track-listing, visit: http://www.lakeshore-records.com/fame.

Being involved in this project carries special meaning for Sage, who reveals: "When I saw 'Fame' as a kid, the characters resonated with me so much...By the time the TV series came out I'd already decided I wanted to grow up to be a combination of Leroy, Coco and Bruno - who definitely inspired me to get my first synthesizer!"

As a teenager, Sage's passion for dance ultimately carried her to the renowned School of American Ballet (located directly across the street from the performing arts high school upon which "Fame" was based). "A lot of dancers at S.A.B also attended the High School For Performing Arts, so there's definitely a big nostalgia-factor for me." Sage eventually performed with the New York City Ballet, and also studied at the legendary Actors Studio, before turning her focus entirely toward being a musician.

About the Film:
A reinvention of the original Oscar®-winning hit film, Fame follows a talented group of dancers, singers, actors, and artists over four years at the New York City High School for Performing Arts. The cast includes a host of newcomers in the student roles, but fans of the original film will be pleased to find Debbie Allen recast as Principal Angela Simms; the faculty casting also features such luminary talent as Kelsey Grammer, Megan Mullally and Bebe Neuwirth. For further information on the film, visit: www.generationfame.com.

About Rachael Sage:
Self-taught musician, poet and producer Rachael Sage radiates what MOJO Magazine calls "warm, intelligent...NY indie charm". An innovative, improvisational keyboardist, she performs over 150 dates a year with her band The Sequins throughout North America, Europe and Asia. Sage, who has shared stages with Ani DiFranco, Colin Hay, The Animals and Judy Collins, was recently named one of the Top 100 Independent Artists Of The Past 15 Years by Performing Songwriter magazine. A two-time Independent Music Award Winner, Sage has earned a loyal following for her infectious melodies, poetic lyrics and often-outrageous, colorful stage banter.

Her latest self-produced album, CHANDELIER, was mixed by Kevin Killen (U2, Elvis Costello), and contains 13 tracks of what Performing Songwriter magazine calls "engaging pop arrangements and gripping melodies".

Fresh from her successful run in Scotland at Edinburgh's Fringe Festival, Rachael Sage brings her new show "Sequins & Shpiel" to the West Coast. Be sure to check out her live rendition of the song "Fame" that The Herald (Edinburgh) calls the "hit of Fringe 2009."

Teenagers-Hayley Williams

So if you haven't heard yet Hayley has a song on the 'Jennifer's Body' soundtrack. It's called Teenagers. She wrote it when she was about 14 before Paramore was formed. It's her single and I love because i can completely relate to it. Here's the link!

New Moon: Thom Yorke and Kings of Leon On The Soundtrack?

Ahh, my favorite part of writing about the Twilight series: the soundtracks.  This is how I began writing for the film series, if you've been paying close attention.  And then there's me wondering how the artists will fit the concept of a teen vampire love story, which obviously worked for Paramore--before only my friends raved about them, and now they're very much up there, thanks in part to their inclusion on the Twilight soundtrack.

And now, New Moon.  We've heard a lot of chatter on which artists could make it on the soundtrack: names floated include Kelly Clarkson and Coldplay.  In an interview with Rotten Tomatoes, director Chris Weitz spilled a couple more names that are, for a music lover like me, a little surprising.

"Fortunately, I'm not at the stage where I have to turn anybody down yet, because everything is still kind of up in the air, but I am surprised at some of the bands that have said they're interested," Weitz told the website.  "The criterion will still always be what's right for the movie at that given moment, but Thom Yorke is interested; we might, if we're very lucky, get Kings of Leon to do something... it's exciting to be able to have access to this kind of talent."

Yep, the Kings of Leon, those three brothers and a cousin who suddenly burst it out big time after four albums.  And yep, Thom Yorke, the vocalist of British band Radiohead, the same guys who got into some sort of verbal scuffle with Miley Cyrus... I'll try imagining that, all right.

But they're just possibilities, much like the Kelly Clarkson/Coldplay chatter.  Yorke's camp wouldn't confirm or deny the involvement.  As for the Kings, well, it's not exactly going to happen, at least at the moment.  "I haven't had any time to write any music," band frontman Caleb Followill told Entertainment Weekly.  "We've been so busy... I would have to write a song in my hotel room, which I think we might could do, but I don't know.  As of right now I'm more focused on getting some rest and writing another album."
