23 going on 24

I don’t use buzznet often its because I think its seriously frustrating to do anything on. I'm having the worst time just changing my background and feel like a total puss because everyone has a custom background and I’m using a default. Anyway I felt it would be good to express how I’m feeling about getting older.

 

I don’t know if anyone else my age feels this way, but to me being so close to 25 is so frustrating! But the other day I was at the Vans store in Melbourne Central (not as good as I thought it was going to be) and the sales kid asked me my age and I said  I was 23 and he was like:

"how old are you?"

 

"Eighteen"

 

 

 Now, normally people would take this as a compliant but this kind of upset me.

 

 

Why does society push us so hard to put us into these "moulds" of what we should be and not just let us be ourselves? What just because I’m 23 does that not allow me to look/ dress the way I do? I mean lets say I did fit into this mould then what? I got to follow along and have 2.3 kids and a mini van and a dog? NO I refuse. I traveled half way around to world to meet my true love and left home from 16-18 more times then the aver American engulfs sugar. I don’t like doing things the stereotypical way. If this means that I’ am a outsider then good I rather be myself.  23 year old red headed Asian girl who loves metal and wear diy couture and only wears flats.

 

That’s probably why I like Audrey Kitching so much.

 

Sometimes the things she posts/ talks about is spot freaking on. Im really happy that shes so successful because she deserves to be. I dont want to aspire to be like Audrey but I would like to make my own way in the world. As I am with my red hair and tats, why cant I be earning 100k a year and still have these things? Why do I have to put on a front and wear 3/4 sleeve shirts and wear my make up all conservatively? Its just stupid.

 

From now on I will NEVER ever be anything else but myself. Even though getting older is scary I need to stay true to myself, I have hated myself long enough and now Im ready to live my life.

Muffins, tea and crumpets.

I feel like society today has lost a sense of class or regality.

Back in the day where standards were high and almost a little too taboo, you wouldn't dare sleep around. If you did, you became known as a "wench". These days it's like "who did you sleep with today?"

Sad really. I feel as though the youth have grown up in this false limelight and because if it, we've all lost a sense of physical boundaries, class and common sense.

We're just kids.. thats all... just a bunch of kids wanting to stay Lost Boys and Girls in this Captain Hook and Pirate world. So why rush to grow up?

Girls and guys alike feel the pressure to conform, whether they do or not is completely based on sub concious will power, in the end it is just human nature. You can't even walk into a grocery store these days meant for FAMILIES without seeing a magazine displaying some partially nude celebrity, athlete or model.

Truth is.. most of us will never look like them no matter how many hours a day we work out, how many calories we count or how much surgery we get.

Be accepting of your self, take a step back and realize what YOUR values are. We are supposidly the generation of change. Lets change ourselves to how WE want to be, not what society has built us up to be.

Not even a Heraclitus distinguishes clearly between the institutional laws of tribal life and the laws of nature; both are taken to be of the same magical character. It seems to me, however, that there are some characteristics that can be found in most, if not all, of these tribal societies. This is my blog about society

So over the past couple of months, there have been a lot of happenings around me. In my country, community and even at my school. I've had to think seriously about a lot of things and I've definitely come to appreciate what I have a lot more.

But I've also come to realize that most of the issues and conflicts today aren't about what they used to be. It's not... who cheated in the 100m sprint or who took more cheese than they were allowed in cooking class. In fact; it's not even the price of petrol or the slowly rising price of food anymore either.

What it is about though; is the way your hair is cut and colored, the type of jeans you're wearing, what genre of music you listen too and the color of your skin. It's about attention and who your friends are. It's about religion, race and sexuality. And it's disgusting.

This is what society is. But still; all everyone with some 'authority' can talk about is how the world is in a recession. Forget trying to solve global warming and stop terrorist attacks for a moment... and look at what's really going wrong that CAN be solved just by changing the way you look at a few things in the world.

It's time people realized that everyone is different and there's no right to judge on that. The world can't be about protecting your image and reputation anymore because there are so many people getting hurt. Kids are fighting in school to the point where some are afraid to set foot in the front gate. Kids and even adults in society are getting picked on and bullied because of what they look like, the type of music they listen to or because they like the same gender etc etc...

 Personally I have tried so hard not to let things like this go to my head simply because I know I can't exactly do anything to fix it by myself; but yesterday this (http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendId=19727681&blogId=483364511) was brought to my attention by False Start and it pretty much threw me over the edge.

To see kids' getting picked on like that is disgraceful and to think that it's happening in my country and even in my school at a mild rate is even worse. I know how it is because I go to high school and I see it every day... as I'm sure a lot of your reading this do too. I've been picked on because of the way my hair is cut and the clothes I wear and I'm also sure you or someone you know has been too. It's nothing to glamorize or put out there to say is cool, but it is something to make a statement and a stand against.

See you'd like to think and say that you can't just shit on people because they're different... but in fact you can. As wrong as it is; you can. And it sucks that no one does anything about it. Police, school principals and prefects; do they try to solve things such as racism or kids getting picked on because they look 'emo'? No, because it's passed off as 'another school yard fight' when in fact it's something very serious that needs to be delt with.

And it's not just in school either, I see kids in town getting hassled or laughed at by another bunch just because they're wearing a mini skirt with ripped stockings and a band shirt. They're getting hassled because they don't look the same. Stereotyping is a big issue in school, in the community and in fact almost everywhere you go. But it's coming to a point where the bullying and the stereotyping aren't the big issue anymore; the real problem is that no one's doing anything to stop it.

Cacophobia- irrational fear of ugliness

This word comes from the Greek word kakós which basically means "bad". A more familiar word derived from this root are cacophony (discordant sound or "bad" sound).

I find the phenomenon of cacophobia to be of particular interest since like many other phobias, it is a universal experience.

On one level or another we all shun ugliness.

No matter how open-minded, politically correct, or bleeding-heart you think you are, no one cannot escape this affliction. In fact, I am inclined to believe that the "Politically Correct" suffer most from this psychological disturbance.

Always out on the street protesting, always trying to restrict the use of language, trying to ban "ugly" or "offensive" words, they wish to outlaw "ugly"speech and "ugly" behavior.

They are at war with the Ugly.

What these people fail to realize is that, in the grand scheme of things, they are no different than their nemeses...the people they censure. The Politically Correct simply have a different definition of what "ugly" is when compared to their foes.

No matter how much they will try to convince themselves or others, very few people veritably look for beauty in life.  The overwhelming majority of humans seem to crave hideousness. They long for the Unsightly. After all, it gives them something to talk about.

Upon closer examination, the world does not seem to be infested by cacophobes, but rather cacophiles (people who love that which is foul).

Ugliness provides the most impuissant among us with some sort of life purpose. Yammering on and on ad nauseum about the all the wretched things in life seems to fill a gap in their souls that the appreciation of beauty cannot. They feel a sense of nobility when palavering about all the horrible things going on around us and all abominable individuals involved. Politicians, racism, sexism, crime, economy, war, terrorism, kidnapping, murder, poverty, drugs, etc, they never shut up and they never tire.

They want to hold others accountable for their own disenchanted view of the world. It is quite manifest however that it they themselves who engender the atrocities they so dearly love to hate.

Having said that, there doesn't seem to be anything intrinsically wrong with the mere recognition of the ill-favored, as it can be a great tool for personal and societal development.

However, I see very few people using the observation of ugliness to improve their lives. I see them using as an excuse to perpetuate their bellicosity. They create more war and more strife, creating a well of ugliness that will never run dry, matter how much their gluttonous cacophilia consumes.
