Every superhero has a beginning...

ok call me lazy; alot of this content i already typed up for my lj account earlier today. So i thought, instead of typing it all up again why don't i just copy and paste it here. ^.^

NOTE; I missed Halloween, i spent it on a plane. -_-
next year, i am going to so dress up and go do something for it.
I say this, but it probably won't happen LOL

---------------------------------------

I'm Back, London and Paris were amazing. Glad to be home though.

I was sooo close to meeting JB but i did meet Ben Barnes =D
more on that later though.

My Love for Smallville is BACK. [Obession if you would like to say lol.]

Ok, i have been a fan of SV for quite a number of years now but the truth was i lost interest in it after awhile.
Maybe it was that fact i wasn't a huge fan of Lana and her romance or problems with Clark seemed to drag on and on, -_- lol
oo yeah and she got with Jason [Jensen Ackles] that didn't help. -_-

But i have been watching it again on Fox 8, and my love for it has returned.
I have not seen season 6 yet, i really want to though. What i have seen on youtube, it looks amazing.

Oliver Queen [Green Arrow] - major hottie alert
and his romance with Lois [yes i know, i already know what happens but still. ] is just cuteeeeeee =)

and season 7 and 8 [what i have seen of it] looks AMAZINGLY AWESOME.
Clark and Lois get closer, it's sweet.

i seriously need to buy all the seasons. =D

Flash Gordon Returns

Tonight Flash Gordon returns to the small screen in yet another re-make of the 1930s serial.  Sci-fi have scooped the UK premiere of the new show which stars former Smallville heart throb Eric Johnson as the invincible hero.  It may have modern day special effects,  and actors primped and preened to the point of insanity it would be difficult to out-do and nigh on possible to out-camp the 1980 film.

The figure hugging lycra costumes, the endless double entendres ("I'll come if you rocket there quickly"), and the musical genius of Queen.  How could this film fail to be the best remembered and best loved incarnation of Flash?  And that's before you get to the simmering sensuality of Princess Aura and Prince Barin and Brian Blessed's most famous line ever "Gordon's alive?!"

In issue two of retrorama ezine we'll be offering up a full review of the new series and giving you the gospel truth about how it meaures up to the 1980 feature.   You can subscribe for free by emailing us at retroramamagazine@gmail.com, that way you can be sure not to miss out on any 80s action.

Notes on upcoming Smallville - AKA "I can haz butchy slut?"

I feel like I'm coming out a bit, but to write this post I need to come clean.  I watch Smallville.  There, I've said it.  I don't always like it.  But, as with other addictions, even when it makes me mad I still never doubt that I'll go back for more.  I watch Smallville.

So when I heard that Black Canary was going to be on it I got a little happy.  I love the idea of Birds of Prey, but I think the show was handled terrible.  There was no real driving essence behind the characters and they inhabited a universe that was not DC.  Even the villain was switched after the pilot which lets you know how tight the continuity was from the get go.

I am NOT saying that Smallville has the best universe.  I think that bringing in Super Girl was a little bit desperate, especially after getting rid of his other Kryptonian companion from the Phantom Zone.  Then the amnesia... Fine.  And the simple fact that Clark can't fly is driving me nuts.  There's really no reason for that other than the creators or writers started out by saying he can't fly and it's been a long time but they're sticking to it.  Lana not being a red-head?  That majorly pissed me off, but that may also have something to do with my thing for red-heads.

They've actually been doing a not terrible job with their budding Justice League.  Sure, the Flash being a mutation is a little weak.  But on the whole the Green Arrow is nicely done as a foil to Lex.  I mean, it doesn't flat out suck and since it has Aquaman in the group that's saying a lot.  So now that they're tossing Black Canary into the fray for more Green Arrow stories?  Cool, right?  Maybe not.

If you go here, you'll find some tidbits and a good number of pictures of black canary.  First of all, it looks like a sorority girl decided to be Daryl Hannah from Blade Runner for Halloween and then just put on a bondage outfit from Party City.  What's up with that “mask”?  And the hair cut.  And boy-shorts?  It wouldn't kill you to wear the proper unitard?  Or the jacket collar ala 1970's Nightwing?  Really, folks.  Who dressed her?

And then there's her job.  She's a conservative talk show host...  Ok, you lost me.  Yes, conservative.  Why?  Because (and I'm just making an educated guess here) that they wanted a foil for the Green Arrow and his uber-leftists politics.  But since Green Arrow is already a foil for Lex then...  “Well, let's just say that my foil's foil is my wish fulfillment wet dream,” says Lex.  Honestly, would they have been sued if they called her Ann Coulter, Night Stalker?

In the comic there's a lot of fighting between Black Canary and Green arrow.  But it's not because they think the other character is a horrible human being.  It's because
  1. 1.Black Canary has a lot of relationship issues.
  2. 2.Green Arrow tends to think with his... arrow and not his head.
They fight because they're barely compatible as people but share an ideology.  They fight for good and improvement of the world, not for the status quo of the state.  They rub each other the wrong (and right) way, but they aren't really enemies.  But now we have a conservative talk show host and a green-friendly eco-businessman.

So I've just lost hope for what could have been some great episodes.  If I were writing this I'd have the rooftop romance between Green Arrow and Black Canary spark but hold back because of her.  I'd have Oliver hold himself over with Loise until Black Canary finally comes around.  And then I'd have Oliver fuck it up by cheating on Black Canary with Loise.  I think that would make a very nice and messy dramatic plot arch.  But now?  Who knows.  Maybe Loise will become pregnant with Oliver's kid and Black Canary will try to stop her from having an abortion... by killing her!

Maybe this season won't be so bad after all.

Ten superhero specifications

So you think being a Superhero is easy?  Think again.
As a true blooded list lover I racked out my mind for some the common denominators among the world aclaimed Superheroes. (this is inspired by the 95 comments on my rockstar requirements post)

1.  An underclass status is a must-have...

(Wolverine belongs to an underclass of morally ambivalent anti-heroes.)

2.  Inspired by an uber-charming lady love..

(Lana Lang melted the heart of the man of steel)

3.  An artsy mask to hide the face...

(Way to go hiding your superhero face Mr. Kent!)

4.  Along with a fab booty hugging spandex...

(Spiderman having some sort of wardrobe malfunction)

5.  A fast and furious ride for the chase...

(Batman had been officially pimped!)

6.  Then an a-maze-ingly designed crib...

(The Baxter Building is a fictitious Manhattan 35-story office building whose upper five floors house the Fantastic Four's headquarters in Marvel Universe.)

7.  Sometimes fire in the belly will also do...

(Daredevil provides justice he didnt get when his father was murdered.)

8.  Dont forget to compose a catchy creedo...

"With great power comes great responsibilities"

9.  Then there's the loyal bestfriend...

(Harry and Pete had some rough times as friends but friendship had ruled till the end)

10.  And the friend that turns out to be the villain.

(Lex and Clark had been friends at some points of theyre lives.  Hmmm.. I wonder if it has something to do with Lex' hair!lol)

*thats it guys..time to go, have to save the world before bedtime..*

This season in Television

So this season of TV actually has some promise.  It's got some old favourites coming back and a surprising new batch of possible regulars for my schedule.  So I'm going to tell you all about what I'm watching.

Monday
    8pm
    How I Met Your Mother
If you're not already watching this show then you're missing out.  It's amazing.  Legendary, even.  It's honestly one of the funniest sit-coms since Scrubs and I don't usually follow sitcoms except reruns when they happen to be on.  This is the third season.  1 and 2 are out on DVD.  Netflix them and jump on board.  Ted is a bit whiney for season 1 but everyone else more than makes up for it.  Barney (Niel Patrick Harris) is at his finest.

    9pm    Heroes
You're all watching this already.  I know because I can see into your houses.

    10pm    Journeyman
I pulled the first episode off of Amazon Unboxed (terrible service.  don't do it unless you're prepared to FairUse4WM everything).  It was ok.  I liked the filming style much more than the plot but I'm willing to give it a chance.  Other than the conspiracy/story arch with his dead ex-fiancee from the future it seemed like a Quantum Leap rip-off.  Here's hoping it finds better footing in the writing.

Tuesday

    9pm   Scrubs
Last season.  It went from Ally McDoctor to something far more surreal with a lot more heart.  How often can a sitcom manage heart without being sappy pap?  Once every 6 years or so with HIMYM picking up the torch.  How's it going to end?  Probably with everyone slapping JD for being an ass.  Elliot is an (engaged) emotional mess and you've got a baby  coming.  Don't make out with her.

    9pm   Reaper
Actually, the premier was a lot more entertaining than I thought it would be.  It has Smith's penchant for word play without his penchant for poop play.  The devil is good, but not as good as John Glover in Brimstone.  It's fun.  I'll take it for a ride this season

    9pm   Eureka
It's fun.  I like the sheriff.  The plots are fun sci-fi with enough geek characters to talk Star Trek style for a bit.  The daughter is suprisingly not obnoxious.  The High School satire is surprisingly effective when they bring it in.  Sure it's a little too cute sometimes.  And how it manages to be cute while dealing with dimensional-autistic interface as well as having a regular shuffled back and forth from being tortured by GD staff to being tortured by the Department of Defence is a little baffling.  But it's casual torture, I guess.

Wednesday
    8pm   Pushing Daisies
This is my big investment this season.  I have declared my undying love for this show since I first watched the premier in early August.  The visual style is fantastic.  The cast has chemistry.  The dialogue almost sounds like poetry.  It's expressionist television (closer to the French Amile than anything German).  Also, I'm a sucker for death comedies.  Seriously though.  This is from Bryan Fuller.  Creator of Dead Like Me.  Writer for a good portion of Heroes.  He's the heavy hitter that most people don't know is there.  Good episode of Star Trek Voyager?  Check the credits, it might be him.  Like Wonderfalls?  Him.  Seen the Amazing Screw On Head?  Then you're one of 5 people, but it's still him!

    9pm   Bionic Woman
The premier was ok.  Not great.  I'll give it a shot for a few episodes.  If it takes a good turn and deals more into the character development that it needs rather than straight into the other bionic woman than it might have some staying power.  We'll see.

Thursday
    8pm   Smallville
Guilty pleasure time!  Do I find it painful that they're still sticking to the "no flying rule" like dogma?  Yes!  Supergirl can fly.  His clone can fly.  His body, when possessed by red kryptonite, can fly.  But Clark?  No flying.  Get him off the fucking ground already.  Supergirl?  Not that cute little bouncy cousin I'm expecting from... every visual interpretation ever.  With the robes and sharp cheekbones she's more like a young, blonde Wonder Woman.  But it's the very fact that I was driven to write about this show with exlimation and question marks that means I'm hooked.  So I'll just mark it down to guilty pleasure and try to enjoy it.

P.S.  IMDB, please take Pete Ross off the short lit of cast members.  It's been 3 years.  I don't think he's coming back.

I'm also thinking about checking out Aliens in America.  We'll see.
If anyone out there thinks I'm missing something grand, please let me know.  I time shift everything so the actual schedule matters not to me.  Hence my 9pm fest on Tuesdays.

EDIT - Avoid Cavemen.  Watching it is like when you go to a friend's house and thier parents are having a fight but trying to be civil/passive aggressive.  It just feels really awkward.  You want to say "Please.  Stop trying.  It's ok."  But you can't.  Because they can't hear you through the TV.
