Eight Bands A Week (Week One): Introduction

Hallo to all the Buzznet users.

I want to introduce you to my new main focus on this site; a series of journals I am going to make that spotlight specific bands. It's basically my own knockoff of "Daily Music Dose", although I had this idea for a week, and I only discovered DMD yesterday.

I call it "Eight Bands A Week", named after the Beatles song "Eight Days A Week". Starting today, I will go through the ups and downs of eight bands every week. One each on Sunday - Friday, and TWO on Saturday. Later today I will post my first entry, this is ONLY an introduction.

EBAW will be something I plan to stick to for at least three months, and depending on views/comments, I may or may not continue with it.

So, I'm not posting my first entry yet, not for a few hours. I need my beauty sleep too. But I will show you what this week will look like.

Sunday: Green Day
Monday: Three Days Grace
Tuesday: Queen
Wednesday: Boston
Thursday: Iron Maiden
Friday: Metric
Saturday 1: Tokio Hotel
Saturday 2: Silversun Pickups

I will be doing those bands. All sort of well known, mostly (SP is questionable). I hope to have fun doing this and I hope it's something that gets me noticed. When people read my stuff, they can see that I can write quality sh*t most of the time. So I hope you guys enjoy this enough so that I enjoy it and keep writing. Because when I see people actually like my stuff and enjoy it, that's what makes me the most happy and most likely to write more.

Jennifer's Body, Hot or Not?

Who:

Best known for Juno, everyone's favorite story of teenage pregnancy and borderline pedophilia, screenwriter Diablo Cody is preparing to release her second feature film. Jennifer's Body is the film in question, set to be released September 18, 2009.

Cast members include Megan Fox (Transformers), Amanda Seyfried (Mean Girls), Adam Brody (The OC) and Juno's parents J.K. Simmons and Allison Janney. Also Amy Sedaris, who many of you might not know of, but she is absolutely fantastic.

What:

Diablo Cody certainly lives up to her name with this one: Jennifer's Body is about a stereotypical bitchy cheerleader (Megan Fox) who becomes posessed by a demon after coming into contact with a Satan-worshipping band, fronted by Nikolai (Adam Brody... in guyliner!). Jennifer's stock character of a plain best friend (Amanda Seyfried) realizes she has to kill Jennifer after boys from their Minnesota high school are brutally and "mysteriously" killed.

Wait, what?

It's billed as a dark comedy and said to be similar to Heathers (which I highly recommend. However, I'm not sure I can recommend this movie. Though having only seen a trailer, I can't exactly tell you to skip it either. Judgement pending. It has a great cast, but I'm squeamish and not sure if I can stomach the cannibalism (Yes, you read that right, cannibalism). I might just stick to rewatching The OC and Mean Girls to get my fix on my preferred actors.  But there is one more thing that intrigues me about this flick...

Who Else:

Even if I don't end up seeing this movie, I think I might have to buy the soundtrack. Featuring All Time Low, Cobra Starship, Dashboard Confessional, Panic at the Disco and Silversun Pickups, I don't see how this soundtrack won't become a hit in the scene. It's the new Snakes On A Plane soundtrack but (hopefully) without all the shitty remixes.

Some new music I'm loving....

I suggest you guys go buy the new AAR album...the more I listen to it the more I'm liking it lol. There first single was lameee but the first song on the album is my favorite! I just bought Lily Allen's new album and it's amazing! I know I'm a little late on that one lol. I also like the new Silversun Pickups song Panic Switch and the song Day and Night by Kid Cudi...the beat is so catching.

I can't wait for the new Muse album to hit stores! I really want to go see them live in England, that would be so awesome. I also heard Amy Winehouse is prepping for her new album which makes me very excited. Last but not least the new Used album will be out soon! I feel like it's been forever.

anyways check these out peeps

A current obsession...or several

I figured I'd post one of these...stuff I'm absolutely in love with lately.

1. Silversun Pickups

I swear, I'm in love with this band. I couldn't quite get into older bands that SSPU take their influence from (like Smashing Pumpkins, anyone who says SSPU isn't influenced by SP obviously has never heard Siamese Dream). I bought their new album Swoon while on a band trip in Washington, DC and have been listening to it nx. It probably started one fateful late night when I left VH1 on (as I usually do), and was woken up by a frantic bassline around 5am. It sounded oddly familiar. I propped myself up to see that it was their new video, "Panic Switch", which I had just seen for the first time on YouTube before I went to bed. It was a moment unlike that scene in Across the Universe where they're all on the bus singing "I Am The Walrus" with Bono. It was a total trip. But oh, so glorious. The moment I woke up that morning, I rushed to my computer and bought "Panic Switch" on iTunes, only to buy the actual CD that Thursday. My favorites other than "Panic Switch" are "There's No Secrets This Year", "The Royal We", and "It's Nice To Know You Work Alone". I've also been listening to Carnavas and the Pikul EP a lot, moreso Pikul though. Also, Nikki Monninger, their bassist, is freaking awesome. Not only is she a fantastic bass player...but she always has really cute clothes (see the dress above). I am kind of jealous, actually.

2. Not freaking out about swine flu

Some people make a bigger deal out of it than it is. It's treatable. Some people just can't afford medication. Yes, I'm aware that it can kill, but only if you don't treat it in time. Just wash yer hands, kiddies...

3. Big-ass bows

I have been wearing this bow all week, in a different style now though. Kinda like Lady GaGa's hair bows, only not made of hair. This is an older pic though.

4. Crunch Berries

This and Lucky Charms are the only cereal I will ever eat. Because it's amazing. My mom bought two boxes and we're already done with them (it wasn't all me, we have four kids in the house, including myself).

5. No Doubt's reunion

They performed on the Today show. One word: EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

September 6, 2008

Its raining, but it isn't pouring.

Yello.

School started.

It sucks.

I'm listening to the Silversun Pickups.

Sewing my Who shirt to make it smaller.

It's raining.

I hope its not pouring.

Because I wanna go to Starbucks.

To get a double chocolate chip frappuccino.

: ]

Yesterday was all sunny and bright outside.

I hung out with some of my friends.

Most of them I haven't seen in weeks.

I took a lot of pictures.

I might post them.

December 3, 2007

oh wow....

ok, last night was next big thing which is a show that the local radio station puts on here and it was amazing!

there were two stages and in the beginning, Providence, Mutemath, The Starting Line, and Saosin played on the smaller stage. we only saw half of Providence but from what we did see, i thought they were pretty good and i almost met the guitarist.

normally, i don't like Mutemath but they were really good live and fun to watch. the lead singer kept doing hand-stands and flips off of the piano and missed a few times. then the guitarist and the drummer threw out a pick and a drumstick and if they had thrown it a little farther and a little more to the left, my friend and i could've caught it

so the entire time when we were at the smaller stage, my friend tori had a bunch of friends that had gone and they were hanging out with us and we were slowly but surely pushing our way to the front. during the starting line's set, we were about 4 rows away from the front of the stage but then this moshpit started and i lost tori and i was getting stepped on by guys like twice my size and weight so tori found me and we got out of there as fast as we could and sadly missed saosin's set :( but during the starting line, there was one hilarious part! there were people sitting over by the stairs and the lead singer goes, "Hey guys on the stairs!" and starts waving and EVERYONE gets quiet and he's like, "well fuck you then" and he starts playing

as much as i love the almost, they honestly were not very good. i knew all the songs but it took me a while to figure out what they were saying. the only song they did do really good on was of course, say this sooner but i must say, they all looked really good lol

again. i'm normally not a fan of the silversun pickups but they were really good! the lead singer actually got off the stage and started walking around with the fans and tori got an AMAZING picture of him!

i have nothing to say about against me! except that i didn't like them

FLYLEAF! they were AMAZING! they played all of my favorite songs by them and lacey is so cute! it was sweet becuase right before they played all around me, she goes up to the mic and says, "one day, i was signing for this girl and she said, 'thank you for playing that song. my husband died in iraq and he would sing that to me'" so then lacey said, "let's sing a song for Jesus Christ" and then the band started palying all around me their set was really cool looking too! i have pictures but buzznet never lets me post them from my computer so i have to do it from my mom's

i don't like coheed and cambria and after last night, i still don't. they took forever to get off the stage which made tori and i mad because once they got off, there was this thing where you could sign up to dance on stage with the used and the sign up thing was at the hooters tent so tori and i are stuck with her friends jake and paul and a bunch of hooters girls. imagine how that went!

of course, paramore was brilliant! they sounded pefect! and they were so much fun to sing along with and watch hayley's so cool she's inspring (so's lacey btw)

i never really listen to chevelle before but they were great! i didn't know most of the words but they were really good live!

angels & airwaves. wow. i don't really have an opinion on them. i like them becuase it's tom delonge, but i don't like them because tom delonge left blink 182 to go be in angels and airwaves. anyway, they were pretty good and i had tori screaming in my ear how beautiful tom is he was really sweet though. he was talking about the message that angels & airwaves was trying to give out to people and he told us that when he flew in that morning, two guys, one without both his legs and the other without an arm, came up and talked to him and said they got that message it was really sweet

rise against saved my night! during angels & airwaves, a friend of tori's passed out in the pit and almost got trampled and had a seizure i think (she's okay now!) so paul was all upset and so was drew (another one of tori's friends who hung out with us) so paul came and sat with us and him and tori were just so bummed out and worried but then rise against came on and the three of us started like screaming every word it was fun and it got us all in a good mood

jimmy eat world was great! except that when they played the middle at the very end of the show (that kinda sounds funny), tori and i were jumping up and down and i came down on my leg wrong and hurt it (paul and jake had left us for a bit and drew was with his uncle again who was drunk so it was just me and tori)

THE USED!!! WHOOT! they were GREAT AMAZING GORGEOUS PERFECT BEAUTIFUL SPLENDID SMASHING BRILLIANT, ECT!!! oh my god it was amazing! during their set, it was me, tori, jake and drew and it was awesome! jake actually met jeph howard! bert was picking random people out of the pit to come and dance with them on stage and paul almost made it up but some security guard told him to go back! so anyway! drew's uncle was druk and drew loves the used so tori and i invited him to come sit with us since he'd brought paul but paul found a pit ticket on the floor so that's where he was. so drew was all excited and he kept thanking us and jake didn't really have a seat so he was with us becuase tori and i had great seats! we were actually sitting in the handicap area where no one was and it was like right in front of the stage like here's how it was:

stage

pit

some other seats

us

and it was a lot of fun! the four of us were all at the rail head banging and screaming along and before liar liar (burn in hell) bert had everyone stick up their middle fingers and chant "liar" and then they started playing and then throughout the set, he had the crowd chant things like "hell yeah, "fuck yeah" "FUCK!" "what the fuck" and it was a lot of fun! i was sad when it was over
