August 12, 2008Ozzfest 2008So on Saturday I packed up the car with me, my dad, and my daugther and we headed to Ozzfest, we were like the Clampets except more metal :) Got to Pizza Hut park around 11 ish, missed the first two bands which were the winner and runner up of the Garage to Ozz contest, and I can't for the life of me find out who it was that won....anywhoooo.... The first band that we checked out was The Destro, they were playing on The Texas (Third) Stage. We, being my dad and I, both decided that they were pretty good! Had a great time listening to them, DEF would be interested in hearing more. The next band that we checked out was Witchcraft...it wasn't that they were bad, they just kind of seemed out of place for an Ozzfest type event. I felt bad for them, because basically as soon as they started playing people just left in droves. We stayed for most of their set, but at one point my dad had left to go find us some water, I don't know if you heard but apparently Texas is hot as hell during August, my dad came running back to wear me and my daugther were standing to tell me that In This Moment had already started on the mainstage. So we made like trees and leaved :D I LOVE In This Moment!!! I first heard of them last year at Ozzfest and have had two more opportunities, not including this Ozzfest to see them! They are great and I hope that they get huge at some point in their careers. This particular day probably wasn't thier best, the had sound problems, but I still really enjoyed. They sang mostly stuff off their first album but threw in at least one new song that I could tell from a CD that they are getting ready to come out with! Good good stuff!!! Next came probably one of the biggest highlights of my day, Apocalyptica! I SERIOUSLY enjoyed these guys. I like to see people do something different and the way these guys wailed on fucking cellos was INSANE!!! I had heard of these guys before, but never really paid much attention, they DEF have my attention now though. The only songs that I can absolutely say for sure that they played (I was running around trying to find the illusive FYE tent to get Maria Brinks autograph, while simultaneousy watching these guys K? :D) were "I'm Not Jesus" (I did some checking and Corey Taylor didn't sing, he was probably in Detroit with the rest of Mayhem) and they did a cover of Metallica's "Seek and Destroy" which was friggin amazing!!! Next was Shadows Fall, we were settling in after travelling around the stadium trying to find that damn tent, when these guys came on. We were sweating our asses off, it was almost unbearable the heat that day, but were still having fun. I was enjoying Shadows Fall's set quite a bit, when I realized that Drowning Pool was getting ready to come on, on the Texas Stage. That was one of the deals, I got to see In This Moment and he wanted to see Drowning Pool. So we headed over. They were awesome! Sang all the good stuff: Bodies, Step Up, 37 Stitches, Soldier, and Tear Away, among others, not in that order. You KNOW that they killed it since they are from Dallas, and we were in Dallas (OK actually Frisco, but close enough). It was a pretty good set. UNFORTUNATELY! By the time that Drowning Pool was over and we could head over to the mainstage Cavalera Conspiracy was well into their set. I was SERIOUSLY dissapointed as they were one of the top bands that I wanted to check out. But I did enjoy the show they put on. Just wish I could've seen more. Next came, probably, the BIGGEST mistake that we made for Ozzfest. For some reaons, unbeknownst to me at this time, after some discussion, my father and I both decided that we would stay and watch Jonathan Davis's set instead of bothering to go over to the second stage to see Sevendust. We are both STILL kicking ourselves for that. It isn't that Jonathan Davis was "bad" but his solo stuff would be more suited for a small venue until he can kind of refine his act. I also don't really think that it was "Ozzfest" type music he was playing. The other thing that bothered me was that every song that he sang seemed to come off the Queen Of The Damned soundtrack....NOT that there is anything wrong with that, but I was like... DUDE! You got anything original you would like to share with us?!?!?! I've read a bunch of hateful reviews about his set, and I just have to say that I don't agree with all of that. He was still entertaining to watch, he was still Jonathan Davis. I think that most of those people that were hating on him probably don't care much for Korn either, and I do. So that might be the difference. Hell Yeah was next. Now all the other reviews that I have read kind of blasted this set too. I'm inclined to go with the majority on this one. It wasn't a "horrible" set, but not great. The only songs of theirs that I recognized would be "Alcohaulin' Ass", "Hell Yeah", and "Waging War". Other than that not much more to talk about. ON TO THE DIMEBAG TRIBUTE!!! I was really excited to be apart of this! Ever since they mentioned that this would be apart of the show, I thought "This is going to be awesome"...Well...It was good...I wouldn't go so far as to say it was "Awesome" though. The tribute consisted of a shit load of noteables taking the stage and some Pantera songs while clips of Dime Bag played on the two big screens. The songs they played were "Mouth For War", "New Level" and another song I'm not familiar with. There is nothing wrong with the songs that they chose to play, they are good songs, I'm just suprised that they chose those particular ones. The acoustic version that they did of Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" was kinda bad actually, I hate to say that, Pearl Aday was up on stage, with Scott Ian, Mike Inez, Jerry Cantrell and Lars Ulrich (I think that was it), and her harmony was a little off and she overpowered the melody, it left me with one of those uncomfortable "I'm embarrassd for you" kinda feelings. But despite that, it was pretty moving, because the song is a good one, along with the video clips of Dime Bag, it almost made up for that girl trying to ruin it! Next was Serj, THIS is where me and my dad's opinion starts to differ a little bit. My dad did not enjoy his set at all. I on the other hand got pretty much exactly what I was expecting. Serj's songs were sang in his quirky manner with his uber political undercurrent. It was Serj to the bone. My dad did say that he wasn't real familiar with SOAD's stuff so maybe that is why he wasn't digging on it so much? I don't know. I do have to say that along with Jonathan Davis, I don't think this particular event was a good place for him to get any kind of love. Some assholes behind me kept screaming "METALLICA" during his set, it was pretty irritating. That is when I discovered that fan girls and metal heads, more on that to come! After Serj was the moment that most of the people in the venue where waiting for! The prince of darkness Ozzy Osbourne! At 59, this man still makes grown men go insane! It is awesome to watch. He took the stage and the place went wild. The first song that he sang was "I Don't Wanna Stop". Other songs that he sang were Iron Man (Can I getta I AM IRON MAN!!! :D), No More Tears, Road To Nowhere (GOD I LOVE THAT SONG), Crazy Train, Mr. Crowley, Bark At The Moon, Moma, I'm Coming Home, War Pigs and thats all that I can remember. During the middle of his set Mr. Wylde did the sickest solo ever, he did the same thing last year when I went to Ozzfest so I was kind of expecting it this year, with him ending on the National Anthem (Not Jimi Hendrix good, but good enough to give me some damn goosebumps!!!) ALOT of people were bitching about the length of the solo, I don't see what the big deal was! It was good, it was entertaining, and it OBVIOUSLY serves a purpose, TO GIVE OZZY A BREAK!!! The man is old, and has done a lot of drugs K? (He's not actually that old, but he's done A TON OF DRUGS!!!) and I'm sure his stamina is pretty much nonexistant at this point. So if Zakk Wylde wants to show us his goods so Ozzy can take a breather that's FINE BY ME!!!....And scene So Ozzy kept cracking me up because towards the end of his set he would say, "OK!!! This is the last song" then he would play the song and after the song he would be like "If you guys go REALLY FUCKING CRAZY, we'll do another song!!!" Of course the crowd would cheer and then he would be like "OK!!! This is the last song!" and this process repeated itself like 1304 times. I looked at my dad and said "He's doing like NINE ENCORES!!!" LOL!!! IT was funny though. After Ozzy was done and they started preparing the set or Metallica there were FIREWORKS!!! No kidding!!! They didn't last for a super long time, but it was a nice way to keep the crowd entertained for a bit. Last but not least Metallica took the stage! I need to be completely honest here, I was interested in seeing Metallica but I would, by no means, consider myself a fan of the band. There are several of their songs that I actually LOVE LOVE LOVE, but the whole Napster thing left a band taste in my mouth and I just automatically think "Crybabies" when I hear their name. BUT I was still interested in seeing what kind of show they put on! I'm pleased to say that if I "hated" them before seeing them, I don't "hate" them nearly as much now. Those guys put on a helluva show. They blew me outta the water, that's pretty much all I can say. They played every song that I wanted them to play with the exception of two. The version they did of "One" about made me cry it was so friggin beautiful. "Enter Sandman" was great, and DAMN that song brings back so many memories. The other songs that I can remember them singing were Seek and Destroy, For Whom The Bell Tolls, Battery, Sanitarium, And Justice For All, And Nothing Else Matters, Sad But True, Unforgiven, that's all that I can remember, they played for like 2 hours or something! But it was a good set. They broke out a new song off their new album it was called "Cyanide" I have no official opinion of that song, I would need to hear it again. By the time Metallica came out I was burnt, sweating and tired, so I wasn't trying to hard to pay attention to that song. The one part of their set that I didn't care for was the encore, they played "12 Minutes of Satan" and they had this guy come out, King Diamond, I have NO IDEA who he was, and I don't care, he creeped me out and added absolutely nothing to the show and that is when we left. The part of their set that I loved was their actual set, they had this huge screen and cameras were on every member of the band and the one that was on Lars was awesome because it would vibrate with him drumming LOL!!! I just liked it, but the huge screens made it possible for all us suckers in the cheap seats to have a good view of what was going on on the stage. So that is pretty much it for my Ozzfest experience, sorry it's so long, a lot of stuff was going on :) The only other thing that I was going to talk about was how there have been nothing but scathing reviews of alot of the shit that went on on Saturday. I was flabbergasted, I had such a great time and there are all these people just blasting it. When I say that some metal heads are just like some fan girls I mean it. They are so opinionated, one sided and irrational, that nothing will change their mind, they will be unhappy with the line up no matter what, and they won't give people like Jonathan Davis a chance because "He's not metal enough" Just make me want to cut someone! Okay I'm done!!!

April 26, 2008Coachella '08: Jack Johnson Is No Substitute for Radiohead![]() INDIO, California — Coachella 2008 is perhaps best summarized by the phone calls I fielded while making my annual drive to Palm Springs this sunny spring weekend. Random friend: "Hey dude, what's up?" Me: "Just driving to Coachella." Random friend: "Is that this weekend? Who's playing again?" Yes, it's quite possible this is the year Coachella became forgettable. Once the country's premiere festival, it is now struggling to keep up with Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza and the like, mainly in the bookings. Radiohead, for example, are playing every festival but Coachella. Instead, we get Jack Johnson. In fact, this is the first time in seven consecutive years of covering Coachella that I chose to miss a main-stage headliner, instead opting for Fatboy Slim in the Sahara Tent. In hindsight, I could have caught both, since Fatboy took the stage nearly 30 minutes late. Who knew it took so long to plug in a laptop? It's also the first time my cell phone worked all weekend, the first time I could get between the main stage and the Outdoor Theater without having to weave in and out of crowds, and the first time the talk of the day was the next night's headliner. If there's any story here besides a disappointing line-up and subsequent low ticket sales, it is Saturday's late-edition headliner, Prince. At least three bands covered him Friday — Architecture in Helsinki, Les Savy Fav and Dan Le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip — while his name came up often backstage. "I took a picture of my drums on the drum riser onstage because it said 'Prince' on it," Rogue Wave drummer Pat Spurgeon said. "I was geeking out." Spurgeon was less geeked about the band's 1:30 time slot, which with heavy traffic early in the day — thanks to a single-lane entry point — meant a sparse crowd. In fact, not until the Raconteurs' 7:30 p.m. set did the main-stage have a decent audience. After the amazing crowd for the Pixies' reunion a few years ago, Kim Deal must have been disappointed in the lackluster crowd the Breeders drew, even if she seemed to be having a blast. There were a few highlights. Datarock was a blast and Les Savy Fav proved himself to be one crazy rocker, but most of the shows came with a "but." The Raconteurs rocked, but it wasn't the White Stripes. Serj Tankian was interesting, but it wasn't System of a Down. Fatboy Slim got the party started, but his late entrance ruined the fun. Fittingly, a giant clock appeared on the screen behind him when he started. The National sounded good, but their set was boring. Dan Deacon did his thing, but on the floor rather than the stage, so no one could see him. And Spank Rock's DJs had something going, but Spank himself was sick and never showed. It was that kind of day at Coachella. The first time I can remember someone calling in sick. I can't say that I don't wish I'd done the same. -Adam DeRoy The Buzznet crew is chatting up the hottest artists and is armed head-to-toe with cameras for photo coverage, so be sure to keep checking back for regular Coachella updates. March 20, 2008Serj Tankian, babySo I've been neglecting this little baby for a while. Sorry baby! I've been really ill though and so has my daughter and now the other half is getting it! Serves him right though as only two days ago he was saying "haha, I haven't caught it" and so I put a jinx on him lol! I just found out yesterday after reading my trusty Kerrang! magazine that Serj Tankian is playing in my little "hometown". Serj Tankian is coming to OXFORD! So of course today I bolted round to my parents house and order two tickets for me and my other half. I then ran over to Serj's myspace and went all gay on it "oh my i'm so excited you're coming here" and the like. I also mentioned that it was Pauls birthday the before the show in hopes that MAYBE serj might wish him a happy birthday LMAO! I know, hopeful wishing but I think I would get some goooooooooooooood love making that night if Serj did that! See *taps finger to the head*, always thinking ahead! I'm just eating a tangerine, though I'm not eating it. I'm sucking the life of it because the juice is the only good part. No sleazy sexual innuendo needed there, thankyou! Oh man, I can't wait!! Can't wait to get some good pictures as well!!

Everybody knows Seriously the end of the video has the best message ever . I admire Serj so much , not just as a musician but also as poet. His lyrics always have a great and powefull message. I wish I could write like him but no ... I only have the "talent" to write stories about Spring and birdies and those things that we all write when we were kids . T_T Serj , you're the man . You rock dude !

CONCERT REVIEW: Foo Fighters. AMAZING!!Okay, I'm gonna describe my night from the first band to the last. PHILADELPHIA, PA::February 21, 2008 Against Me! [1hr. set, 8pm-9pm] Against Me, I've gotta say, I really like them! I've heard they've been around for a long time and that they were a punk band. The sound was a little too loud and off, but it's Punk. It's suppose to be loud!! HA! Anyway, I guess they played 8 songs for their hour set. I don't know them or their music so I couldn't tell you what songs they played. One of them was I think 'Condolesa'? I'm guessing about Condolesa Rice. DUH! Well, my mom and brother went with me and they hated them. But I think they were really good. I give credit to any band and won't say they sucked ass! I honestly thought they were awsome. I started to get into the beats and bang my head a little. All in all, the band rocked! And I hope to maybe see them again!
Serj Tankian [1hr. :49 min. set, 9pm-10:49pm] Now I know Serj from System of A Down and even though the rest of System wasn't there, I was still impressed! His set was pretty awsome!! I'd love to see him on a headlining tour soon!! Oh, and he said before his last song, "Give it up for the Foo Fighters!! *everyone cheers* (serj in a veryveryvery high voice) "They'll be out in just a minute!" HAHA!! I laughed soooo hard when he did that! Well, anyway, he sang (not in setlist order): 'The Sky Is Over' 'Lie Lie Lie', 'Praise The Lord and Pass The Ammunition' 'The Unthinking Majority' 'Saving Us', 'Beethoven's Cunt' 'Empty Walls' 'Baby'
Foo Fighters [1hr. :40 min. set, 10:49pm-12:29am] One word: A-FUCK-MAZING!! ...I know that's not a real word but, hey! I make up words, Buttfucks! HA! Anyway, Dave was really funny the entire night. He would crack just random jokes out of nowhere! And he and his guitarist were doing a guitar duel!! My seats were close, yet far (huh...like the cKy song! lol). But I looked up at the ceiling, and there was this round metal thing. Now, me being a HUGE wrestling fan, I thought it looked like the Elimination Chamber!! But then, halfway through the Foo Fighters set, it started to come down. And when it hit the ground....IT WAS ANOTHER STAGE!!!! RIGHT IN FUCK FRONT OF ME!!!! I whipped out my camera phone and tried soooo hard to take good pics for you guys. The spotlights and lights, in general, kind of screwed with me a little bit. I got a couple winks from Dave and from Pat (he did some guitar for Nirvana back in the day). Well, when they came down to the second stage, Dave got on the mic immediately and said, "I told them to build another stage because from way back there, *points at main stage* I couldn't see you motherfuckers down here! *points at everyone around my area*" I gotta say, I almost passed out I was screaming so much! there were several mics set up around the mini stage for Dave to move to and he came to our side, winked at me, and everytime I looked up at him after taking a pic, he was looking right at me!! Maybe it's because of the shirt I was wearing (my black 'Bite Me!' shirt with chick lips and vamp teeth coming out. it's my lucky concert shirt. =])! And after they played one song from the mini stage, Dave introduced everyone, including the pianist and percussion players. And everyone he introduced he would ask them, "Hey *insert name here*, can you read music?" Some would respond saying, "No. I can read tablature, though!" And Dave would say, "Tabs are stupid!! It's like Brail. It's easy to read." I laughed my ass off when he did that. He would asked the violinist (i forget her first name, but her last name is Green.), Ms. Green if she could and she said yes. he got excited! HA! The one percussion guy that was there was really cool!! He played some bells and tambourine and....a triangle! Dave made fun of him the entire 10 minutes he talked!! He was like, "This guy *insert name here*, is one the baddest and coolest and....probably ONLY triangle players out there!!" The guy just shook his head and laughed at Dave. Then Dave said, "Give us a triangle solo!" and everyone cheered for it. The piano player they had introduced (btw, he said he could read music, too.) made us all do the devil horns but have our index and thumbs connect to make a triangle!! it was AWSOME!!!! And man, this guy was A-Fuck-Mazing at the triangle!! He played sooooooooo fast!! And out of nowhere Dave said, "Don't drop out of High School like I did. You'll ever be anything in life!" and made this evil smile! It was pretty funny. And Taylor got to sing a song, too! Dave said, "Who wants Taylor to sing a song!?" And everyone cheered really loud!! Then Dave jumped up on Taylors drum set and pointed to him and then himself mouthing, "You're not the star. I'm the star. Got it?" Taylor just laughed! We all did! As Dave jumped off he kept turning around mouthin, "Remember that!". Anyway, he said the song was from the last record. Well, before I keep going I'll name the songs they played (not in setlist order): 'Let It Die' (this was the first song they played) 'The Pretender' (the second song) 'Come Alive' 'Learn To Fly' 'Everlong' (acoustic. in front of me!) 'Cheer Up Boys (your make-up's running)' (3rd song they played) 'But, Honestly' 'All My Life' 'My Hero' (acoustic. in front of me!) 'Break Out' (MY FAVORITE SONG!!) 'Times Like These' and a couple other songs. I can't remember the one Taylor sang, unfortunately. But I'll look it up! Now comes the ENCORE!! THEY DID 3!!!! Before that, they had this video pop up when they left the set. It showed a piece of paper that said, "Phila. 2/21". It scans the setlist, zooms out, and Dave's big grinning face is right next to it! He's shaking his head 'yeah' and pointed toward us. There was no audio so he was mouthing to us, "You want us to come back out?" and everyone screamed. Then he said, "How many songs?" Then he held up 2 fingers, everyone cheers, then 3 fingers, everyone cheers louder. The camera goes back to the setlist. Then it pulls out again and Taylors there making the most hilarious faces I've ever seen. Then he held up 10 fingers and said, "You want 10 songs!? OKAY!!" And then Dave comes back and shoves him out the way and mouths, "What's wrong with you? *looks toward camera**points at Travis off camera* Idiot." Everyone booed for some reason. I guess they love Taylor more! It was hilarious!! So yeah they came out and played 3 more songs. But before that, they came out and Dave said, "We're play 3--3 songs, okay? Uh---*looks at group of dudes in front holding up 10 fingers*---No guys. 3! Taylor has no authority here. I do!" Taylor laughed and shrugged his shoulders mouthing 'Oh Well!' And then Dave said, "Nah dude standing here *pointing in front of him* not 30! 3!" everyone laughed. Anyway, the first encore he did was with Ms. Green. They sang 'Big Me' together. As they started Dave said, "This is a love song....off our first record. You can write a song for some and say it's for them but then meet someone else and say 'Hey! I wrote this song for you!'" Everyone was laughing! He immediately said, "NONONONO!! DON'T DO THAT!! DON'T EVAR DO THAT!!!! I WAS JOKING!!" (yes i know i spelled 'ever' wrong but that's how he said it!) So they sang 'Big Me' and it was really good! This was the encore setlist: 'Big Me' 'Long Road To Ruin' 'Best of You' When he was about to sing 'Best of You' he mentioned how the building we were in (The Wachovia Spectrum) was gonna be torn down to make way for a Comcast venue but with malls and stores. He was so mad about it! He pointed to this banner that was hanging inside that said 'Grateful Dead 53 Sold-Out Shows' and said "I think they should wait until we play 53 shows in a row here!!" Everyone including me cheered. Even thought that's not what the banner meant. It wasn't 53 shows IN A ROW! It was over the years they were together. DUH! LOL! But I don't hold it against Dave. He had mentioned it earlier on when they were on the mini stage and said, "I got a quick question. This was bugging me alot since we've been out here. That 'Grateful Dead' banner, is that fucking true? 53 sold-out shows? DAMN! THAT'S HISTORY!!" We cheered and laughed! Well anyway, the night was done and over with, but as I head towards the door to our car, I stopped and picked up a little something for myself. This is my reward for the night:
