aleh-zon.

carrie and samantha are idols of mine. i love them.. charlotte too.. but miranda? not so much. im currently watching, you guessed it, sex and the city. it always seems to whisk me away from the little town blues that i feel sometimes when im here and puts me in a fantastic mood. i feel awful and frustrated currently. im starting to get sick i believe.. my head and throat hurt. bummer.. hopefully i feel better tomorrow for arizona :) we have a four day break and were taking off an extra half day and staying out there with some friends.. im extremely excited. did you have any idea that the name arizona came from "Aleh and Zon" which in an indian language means little spring. i really do learn something new everyday.... what about you?

how do you feel about michael phelps and the whole ordeal that has surrounded him with those pictures? i feel really bad for him.. i mean he is really just a kid and is now suddenly in the public eye and just wanting to have some fun.. it sucks he had to go through all of this.. i hope it blows over!
how do all of you feel about this? all of my friends think the same thing i do...

im so sick of temptresses. one of my best friends is in love with flirting with guys, leading them on, and then loves to parade around wondering why all these guys like her? well duh. you
lead.
them.
on.
ugh. i mean i love the girl.. but i wish she would stop playing so ignorant. it gets quite annoying and i wish she could realize how much it makes people dislike her. i just want people to be perfect like me ;) haha. kidding.

random but it seems as though i never can match my socks.. i dont know if anyone else has this problem.. i know that a lot of girls are starting to mix match their socks because they think its the "in" thing to do.. haha. i just simply grab them and dont even pay attention until someone comments on them.. odd being sock-blind...

(I think it came to $85 & change) One pair of pants (they took most of the price tags off) said $60 originally! ^_^  I lurve shopping...  ...lol  XD

‘Sex and the City’ Hags Still Haggin’

Any stills from the new SATC movie depicting Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall will be fine (http://defamer.com/384993/sarah-jessica-parker-there-are-many-times-matthew-broderick-wishes-he-wasnt-with-me) SLUG: The ‘SATC’ ladies have way more problems offscreen than on. Carrie’s marriage to Ferris Bueller sucks, and Samantha really needs to speak to HR. PARTNERS: None. TEXT The gals from Sex and the City are resurrecting age-old personal problems to spice up the marketing for the new movie. Seems Sarah Jessica Parker’s marriage isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, and Kim Cattrall, well, hates Sarah Jessica Parker. Our beloved Carrie says being wedded to Broadway superstar Matthew Broderick isn’t all bright lights and rose bouquets at the backstage door. Nathan Lane gets all her hubby’s affection! “I’m really lucky he is the father of my son, but we’ve had some rather treacherous train rides. I’m sure there are many times he wishes he wasn’t with me,” she says. Shockingly, Matthew appears to feel the
same way as every other heterosexual male despiser of his wife’s show. And Kim feels the way the men do! Samantha Jones is still complaining about the difference in pay between her and leading lady Parker. She reportedly held out on signing for the movie because it wasn’t gonna be enough bank. And even though she finally achieved a sum she was happy with, it doesn’t mean she likes the rest of those bitches. "Do you get along with your colleagues all the time? If you're spending 18 hours a day at work, the last thing you want to do is go and have a drink with the people who you just [spent the day with],” Kim says. Amen. You know Kim’s really pissed because Patricia Fields gives SJP all the cute shoes. And Sarah never had to show her boobies. The movie opens on May 30. Judging by these reports, look for a full-on drunken meltdown by one of these harridans at the premiere. TAGS: TAGLINES: J. Harvey

'Smart People,' are they happy or not?

"Smart People" takes two cinematic storylines; the fractured family with a dark comedic aspect, and the dead spouse scenario. The film manages to deliver both themes in a relatively comedic and entertainingly dramatic way, never making you mull upon the fact that this is just another f*cked up family movie. Read on...

Things That Sh*t Me About Sex & The City.

Wow, that title almost rhymed. This journal probably comes about 10 years after the fact, although with my paytv channels airing reruns in the leadup to the Sex and the City movie, it seems pretty relevant. I can admit to being an avid Sex and the City fan, although that doesn't grant me ignorance in the face of the shit aspects of the show. Yes that's right, whilst I like Sex and the City, there are some major flaws and elements that just give me the shits (note: for non-Aussies, it doesn't actually affect my bowel movements). As I am eagerly anticipating the Sex and the City movie, and am also looking for legitimate excuses to avoid doing my marketing essay for now, I find it fitting that I should discuss some of the weaker points of this hit tv show.

WARNING: Bitchiness lays ahead....

Carrie Bradshaw:

- Identified as the alter-ego of author Candace Bushnell, Bradshaw deals with many sexual and social issues that most people experience, but don't have the balls to talk about. While this is pretty much awesome, she has some personality flaws that can irritate me to no end. She has a tendency to completely screw over a nice, legitimately caring guy (ie: Aiden as played by John Corbett), as soon as womanising asshat Mr. Big somes back into the picture.

- When Big (played by Chris Noth) comes into Carrie's life, she no longer resembles a grown woman, instead turning into a puddle of submissiveness and epic fail. I understand that when you're "in love" you're expected to act crazy, and do things that you normally wouldn't, but her actions make me ashamed to be female, and generally just cancel out all her aforementioned awesomeness.

Samantha Jones:

- I realise that when we watch the show, we're supposed to identify with one of the 4 personalities offered unto us. Samantha is undoubtedly the more promiscuous, uninhibited one of the group, or in layman's terms, the slut. While it's great that she's so sexually liberated and free, it baffles me as to how she :

a) can root a different guy every night, and she doesn't cop too much shit for being a slapper,

b) hasn't died from or contracted a serious STD by now,

c) doesn't have an exceedingly bad reputation for being a slapper, and is somehow respected  by her friends and colleagues despite having a vagina that's seemingly open 24/7,

d) has rooted nearly every guy in NYC, yet another new one seems to pop up every episode, and;

e) actually manages to get a guy every episode. I personally don't find her to be too attractive, at times somewhat resembling a reanimated corpse, but hey, I can't really vouch for fictional tv guy standards.

Charlotte York

Definitely the conservative one of the group, and annoyingly so for the most part. Reasons why she shits me:

- She places too much emphasis on finding the "perfect man". This is unrealistic, and if she seriously expects any fictional guys to live up to her standards, then no wonder she's single and nearing 40.

- She is generally appalled and berates Samantha for using less socially and politically correct lingo when it comes to talking about sex, but at the end of the day, she's spreading her legs too.

- Charlotte is a tad hypocritical at times. This relates to the previous point, but I also found a certain scene in one of the episodes to be slightly hypocritical as well. Charlotte was saying how she refuses to perform oral sex on any boyfriend she may have, but jumped at the opportunity to date a guy who was rather adept with his tongue. I understand this is a personal choice, but it just kinda pissed me off.

- She calls sex, 'making love'. This is all well and good, and definitely ties in with her conservative personality, but if you're rooting someone on the second date, the sex isnt as wholesome as that label would have you think.

Miranda Hobbs:

Miranda is probably the one I identify the most with. Neither overly or underly sexual, and extremely cynical and sarcastic (I definitely identify with those last parts), and very career minded. Needless to say, I'm able to point out some of her flaws as well!

- Miranda has a tendency to run the opposite way, looking completely ridiculous in the process, whenever she sees an ex on the street. Judging by the way these women get around, if she does that everytime she sees a past lover on the street, it's no wonder she's pretty much fatless. When I saw an ex at the train station last month, I was much more stealthy in slipping away. =D

- While most of the time she's pretty level-headed (and kind of expected, seeing as her fictional occupation is that of a corporate lawyer), when she does get emotional or irrational, it is very extreme. This has led to screaming matches in clothing stores, depressive episodes on the street, and rather loud declarations of love at children's birthday parties.

Miscellaneous:

- Like I said before, Kim Cattrall sometimes resembles a reanimated corpse when playing Samantha. I often think the same with Sarah Jessica Parker in certain scenes. I'm not advocating plastic surgery or anything, but I'm just baffled as to why they feel that all successful single women over 30 must be portrayed as looking like dehydrated fruits.

- The stunning amount of regrowth on the part of SJP & Kim Cattrall. I imagine that the series made them all relatively wealthy, and although I understand that they probably had long work schedules, it shouldn't be too hard to keep up your dye job, yeah?

- Definitely not a show to watch with your parents, although my mum finds it legit amusing sometimes. =D

These are only a few of the negative aspects of Sex and the City that shit me to tears, there are probably countless others that irk me, but not as significantly as those mentioned do.  Judging by the numerous points I mentioned, and language I used to mention them, I could be written off as a SATC hater, but I beg to differ. Regardless of what it is, I believe that fandom is enjoying something (whether it be art, music, television, etc), and acknowledging the flaws but loving it all the same. I may not be a blind fan that advocates this show and is oblivious to any of its errors, and I'm happy about this. I watch Sex and the City for amusement, not to satisfy any childish obsession.

Sarah Jessica Parker's Beauty Secrets

Celebrity and fashion magazines operate in a separate universe.  More than one tabloid publication has attempted to attract customers by promising to deliver the beauty secrets of Sex and the City's Sarah Jessica Parker.  Someone who exists outside tabloid reality might look at the face of Sarah Jessica and conclude, "That woman's beauty is a secret, and I bet it is a secret that will be kept forever."

In the interests of clearing up this mystery of the mass-media universe, here are ten questions aimed at uncovering at least one secret of Sarah Jessica Parker's beauty.

1)  Is it the crows' feet that appear to have been gouged in by the claws of a vulture?

2) Is it the hair pulled back tight enough to create a de facto face lift?

3) Is it the nose hanging crooked and swollen like an old goat's testicle?

4) Is it the piano-key teeth like Mrs. Seabiscuit?

5) Is it the misaligned ears with their odd accumulations of excess cartilage?

6) Is it the mouth set in a perpetual bastardization of smirk and snear?

7) Is it that wart like from a witch's ass?

8) Is it that rag she's wearing around her neck where it can be thrown up at a moment's notice to mask her face?

9) Is it being married to a man who other than being her husband presents no other public evidence of heterosexuality?

10) Is it because of her striking resemblance to Perry Farrell?

lizy is the new carrie?

Today we were in a meeting and Anthony - the mac daddy of buzznet (thats CEO for those of you not hip to the slang) announced that I am going to be a blogging superstar- the Carrie Bradshaw of the my demographic.

I appeciate the compliment.  But those are some awfully big Manolo's to fill.  Carrie articulated for the first time what millions of women have been feeling for years.  She was stylish and sophisticated, with a great apartment, in the greatest city in the world.  She loved her friends, and was loved by them.  She had passion and mystery and was never, even for a second, boring.

Well a much as I'd like to speak to you all the way Carrie spoke to me, I'm as wise or as fascinating as she is. I'm certainly not as stylish.  And also, I'm way messier.  For all her vices and the sloppiness with which she conducted her personal affairs, Carrie's apartment was always presentable.  Mine alas, is not (sorry mom!)  It feels a bit like I'm a pretender to the throne.  I mean look at her!!

Well in anycase its certainly fun to think of myself as Carrie-ish.

So last night Amanda, Travis, Michael, Chloe and I cuddled up for an evening of the Office and Grey's Anatomy.  Oh Meredith.  Thanks for being stupid in such a way that we can all feel smarter watching you wreck your life.  :-) Oh Steve Carell, thank you for being such a delight.  Could you be anymore enjoyably obnoxious as the manager of the Scranton branch of a failing paper company? Dunder Mifflen needs you, we need you. (Come on, just try to look at him without laughing!)

Actually, there were moments in the office where I was concerned that the show was going to be loose itself in its own zanyness.  But ultimatly, good editing prevailed and the show, (especially the last minute during the credits) was great.

Grey's was a bit overwraught as usual. Not such a fan of the plauge outbreat plotline.  I'm guessing it was some kind of metaphor for someone's personal life. But I haven't yet totally figured it out.

Next week: MuteMath and Shiney Toy Guns on Monday, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers on Tuesday, and maybe Over It on Wednesday.
oh yeah- it seems as though Scissors for Lefty have had to cancel most of their east coast tour? Bryan's myspace says its due to van difficulties and the need to return to Frisco. If I can find five minutes this weekend when I'm not asleep or running around like a crazy person, I will try and call them to get the skinny.  They are a good band- I hope that this doesn't screw them up- they were starting to get some traction in the US.
