If you guys haven't been checking over on my other blog where I'm spending most of my time...you missed the various blessed events!
Blinkin' had triplets. Blanche, Rose and Violette (after the Triplets of Bellville)
Pearlie had twins. Bridey and Goata
Nod had a huge single. BossyToe
Maggie had an enormous buck kid. Kidzilla
AlphaBetty... Read More
File this in the gross but oddly satisfying category.
This year has been a really bad one for angry stinging insects. Shadow has all but given up on going outside. We've all been stung repeatedly. Mostly by paper wasps and yellow jackets.
An unwelcome new arrival is a humongous hornet. I know... Read More
I made all of this!
Fresh home-made goatsmilk feta cheese, fresh basil, cukes, yellow squash, vine ripe brandywine tomatoes and homemade chevre.
This time of year, the only thing I really have to buy is olive oil and olives. And squishy white bread for the 'mater sandwiches. I even make my... Read More
I am literally drowning in these right now. They are growing faster than I can do things with them. A half bushel a day is just too many cucumbers.
I've dumped them off with neighbors and have now resorted to letting them grow out to burger chip size then splitting them... Read More
I made a tripod of cut saplings to hold up my gourds and moonflowers. I need to get out there at dusk and get a picture of them. They are night-blooming and glow with ethereal white blossoms in the dark.
These are birdhouse gourds. I'll dry them and make...well...birdhouses and dippers... Read More
It took a few tries to get this shot. It's my favorite.
The bees were most cooperative, being of the big bumbly slow moving variety. The bumbles seem to be really picking up the slack for the honeybees in the polination department. I've been afraid to weed my butterbeans since... Read More
I do LOVE watermelon! This is my biggest one so far. I've got the vines spread out over everything right now.
It's really hard to tell when they are ripe. There is the thumping method. There is the brown pigtail method. And looking at the underside to see if it is... Read More
I could take pictures of sunflowers all day long.
These grew to about 12 feet. I usually only plant Russian Mammoths. They are my favorites and the seeds are good for eating or you can dry that entire huge head and hang it up for the birds in the winter.
This is my okra patch.
I planted red okra this year since the Frisbees told me it stayed tender to a larger size than the Clemson Spineless. It really doesn't as far as I can tell.
You have to cut okra every day. Otherwise the pods get all out of... Read More
You can' t see the back of it from this view and you don't really appreciate how big it is until you are working in it. It's about the size of most building lots. About a third of an acre.
I have planted:
Corn, Winter Squash, Summer Squash, Cantalopes, Turnips, Lettuces,... Read More
These are my two new beautiful boys that I got this spring. They are both Nubians so I'm hoping to have Nubian cross babies. Breeding season starts any day now.
I had my own little ecological disaster this July. On the first day of blackberry picking, I went down to my usual picking area, a burnt out, deserted old farm and found tractors there. Tractors with bushhogs. They bushhogged my entire field of blackberries on the first day they ripened.... Read More
Of course, it wouldn't be summer without taking Aegis for a swim.
The local boys and I went out this sunny day in June and we all went swimming. This is at a swimming hole called "The Roe Hole". There is also "The Saw Mill" and "The Rope Hole". Why they... Read More
This was from May. We had a Blackberry Winter, which means cold weather while the blackberries were blooming. It felt quite odd to be running the heat with June staring us in the face.
Now that we are in the dog days...I sort of miss the novelty of sweater weather... Read More
